I just got the advance readers copy of Phillip Kerr's latest novel, "Prague Fatal". I don't k now if anyone here is a fan of Kerr's Bernie Gunther mysteries but this one is only the second one I've read and it's a pretty good series. If you like nior and hard-boiled detective fiction you'll like them.

It is amazing how much beautiful books you get for less.

I truly wish that I could come to love e-books as there is such a wealth of great books for little or no money available for download. I have a Kindle and have tried it again and again. With me there is just something to be said about the feel and smell of a physical book.

I just found this thread and oh man can I list off a long list. But I'll just mention a few authors:

Chuck palahniuk (surprised I didn't see him on the lists)
    Vonnegut
    Chuck klosterman
    Neil Stephenson
    Phillip k. Dick
    David foster Wallace
Alan Moore (I'm not a comic book guy but the Watchmen was amazing).

My favorite book of all time is probably The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime by Mark Haddon amazing book!

I like Conan Doyle, John Steinbeck, Robert Louis Stevenson, Jack London, John Grisham. and many other authors.

I am surprised that nobody mentioned Robert Ludlum or Daniel Silva. Their espionage novels are among the best I have ever read.

How in the world do you know what to think without a TV to tell you?
