Read all of the Flemming 007 books and a couple by Benson. btw, oddly enough Ian Flemming also wrote "Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang". I'll have to put the Deaver one on my "buy" list.

Frank, as you have read Beowulf, I am sure you would enjoy John Gardner's very insightful Grendel.

If anyone is in middle or high school or has kids that age, I would recommend The Ranger's Apprentice series, by Flanagan. One of my high school students was reading one and suggested them to me. Definitely just a fluffy story, but an entertaining read. I just finished the 10th book, which I believe is the whole series.

It's set in medieval times, with countries and races that parallel actual people, but with different names and a completely different history. The Rangers are similar to the rangers from LOTR, and it follows one from childhood through young adulthood.

Currently re-reading the entire "Wheel of Time" series in anticipation of the last book that's to come out sometime next year.

At today I just started book 3 "Dragon Reborn"

DIdn't really like the books at first but they grew on me to the point where I really love them now.

As an avid reader, it's hard to say what my actual favorites are, but I'll list things I find myself re-reading most often.

    Jim Butcher's Dresden Files
    HP Lovecraft
    Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid books
    Patrick Rothfuss KingKiller Chronicles

These are the things I read, re-read and grab in audible form.

    Default Favorite book?

As the title says, what is your favorite book?

I have just got back into reading recently and have been reading like crazy I have issues finding good books though. I have read all of Anne Rices Vampire books and really enjoyed them. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Just a few of my favorites that I've read a few times:
    The Stand by Stephen King
The Dark Tower series by S. King
    Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
    Without Remorse by Tom Clancy
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

of course there are others out there, just too many for me to name. If you have the time, check out this thread for more recomendations:

The Holy Bible is my favorite and I read it every day. I vary translations from one day to the next, the KJV, NKJV, NASB or ESV depending on the day. Sometimes the Geneva Bible of 1560. I highly recommend it. Romans 1:16 for example.

Hey Rearden-I just got done re-reading The Stand (probably for the 5th time-the characters are like old friends to me now). And Jimmy, even though I teach a 3-week unit on the Bible as part of a Mythology and Religious Lit. elective, I can't just sit down and read it for pleasure-it can get quite tedious in places. Still, I do keep a King James on my desk, and love the poetic language in Isaiah, Song of Solomon, and Christ's Sermon on the Mount.

My favorite book of all time has to be Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Pirsig. A few other classics among my favorites:

    The Grapes of Wrath-Steinbeck
Look Homeward Angel-Wolfe (Asheville is my hometown!)
    Catch 22-Heller
    The Poisonwood Bible-Kingsolver
    Invisible Man-Ellison

I also love Golden Age Sci Fi (Sturgeon, Phillip K. Dick, those guys), and can't resist a Tom Clancy war yarn now and then (Red Storm Rising, Red October, so many others). I'll probably have a completely different list tomorrow. Aaron
