I'm with James. There are so many great authors and novels out there, but Moby Dick has been the one for me since i read it first time in my teen ages. Ever since i've read it again at least 3 or 4 times. Every time it is like reading a whole new book.
Other favorite authors that come to mind are Saramago, Steinbeck, Waltari (Finnish, probaby never translated into English), Eco, Dostoyevski, Conrad, only to name a few.

Thanked: 9I was of the same thought but I travel an extreme amount as of late and decided to break down and get a kindle instead of worrying about getting books etc. Since you can download the books in about 20 seconds. I already emailed amazon and asked for a refund (i am about 50 days outside the return window. The reason for not wanting the kindle anymore..even though i love it..one hand reading or set it on a table and read..is the price of books. you can get a used paperback for like 75 cents off a popular website..throw in 3.50 for shipping and its done deal. Some of the kindle prices are 9+ dollars for a book..electronic book that you can't loan out or sell (for the most part) scam job.

Hey Maple-I'm sure you know Frost was being ironic with that line. I know, everybody hates an internet know-it-all, but that line gets misused a lot.
And you guys debating Kindle versus hard-copy. I guess I'm the ultimate cheap bastard here. I just go to our excellent local library-probably why I don't have shelves groaning with books: I don't actually own that many. But I do love the smell of an old book.
