I think you would have loved the steak if eaten a little earlier in your time line but either way that is a win win....

It's a fun hobby. If you won't to pursue it look into 3D and target shoots. It's a lot of fun.

Can anybody who shoots these tell me why my ones seem to fly in an exaggerated 'corkscrew' pattern & land in the target at about a 30º angle ?

I have shot archery for many years. I started with a Jennings compound when I was 10, when I outgrew that bow I got a Hoyt heat. After a while I got fed up with compounds and bout a Saxon recurve. I have several bows and my whole family shoots traditional bows now. I now shoot a longbow made of wood and bamboo. I cut my cedar shafts and cut my own feathers when I can get turkey wings.

The first thing is to check to make sure the shaft it straight. Also, as with all feathers you can shoot right wing or left wing feathers, but they have to all be the same on the same shaft. What shaft material are you shooting? If you are using wood then you may need to check the spine weight, it could be lighter or heavier than your other shafts. I hope this helps.

Hey Hoss. Welcome to the 'Place'
I shoot traditional too. 50# Korean style bow.

Thanx for your input but I seemed to have fixed it with a heavier fiield point.
Arrows are new Gamegetter 500's with a single spiral wrap feather. They seem a touch overspined for that fletch style .
Thing I found odd was bare shaft & normal 3 or 4 fletch works fine. Use Legacy 2016's as a rule bought the GG's as expendables.

I'm glad it worked out for you!! I forgot to mention that a heavier point would in effect, weaken the spine.

So, this is the end result of desiring a longbow, yet being unable to find a suitable one in my price range:





Patterned loosely after English longbows. Carved from a piece of red oak, handle is backed with pine. I can't remember what type of thread I used when making the bow string. The draw measured about 80# at 29 inches.

It looks good!! How does it shoot? I make my strings out of Dacron.

I think those are Dacron too. It's a little bit heavier on the draw than I intended it to be, I was looking for ballpark 60 # but got a misreading on my jerry rigged combination tiller in post/draw scale made from a bathroom scale.

Anyhow, it hits like a truck and shoots straighter than I can. It also taught me the value of a good arm guard.
