Thread: Dogs!

Introducing Buddy to the great northern brush trails.
He’s up to 37 lbs now and filling out beautifully!

Had to get him a better harness to try to curb his enthusiasm..
He wants to be smelling both sides of the trails at the same time. Near turns himself inside out to run back and forth.
Still Uber uncertain when he meets anything, or one new the first time, but getting more confident every outing..
These power walks are good for me too, get me off my arse and outside!

I enjoy seeing everyone's dogs, and I firmly believe that owning, taking care of and loving dogs (or cats, two of which we lost to coyotes) makes us better people. I can't remember if I've ever posted in this thread before, but here goes:



We had the Boston Terrier named Pappy for about 12 years. He finally had to be put down about a week and a half ago-I won't lie, fellas: I sobbed like a toddler burying him. I loved that dog more than most people I know. His sort of Shepherd-mix looking sidekick is Lia. She is technically my oldest son's dog that he got from a shelter, but since he moved to Osaka, Japan a month ago for work, she is ours for the time being. She is a wonderful, loving companion who knows that I am putty in her paws if she gives me the right look!

Pappy looked like a character. At least you have some solace and comfort with Lia..

Thanks Mike-You're right, though. My wife and I were talking about how empty the house would be without Lia now.

Aw man. Sorry to hear about that Aaron. That breaks my heart every time I lose one. Max is daddy's boy. He's only 5 so I have a while but I don't even want to think about it. He's as big as a Great Dane (30 1/2", 120 lbs) too so burying will be a chore.

After I had surgery he wouldn't leave my side for probably 2 weeks

Thanks Paul-Max looks like a good boy who I'm sure will provided you with many more years of loyal companionship.

As for the burying part, the physical part wasn't too bad. I've been dumping grass clippings and mulched leaves on a raised bed garden in a sunny spot of the backyard for 20+ years, so the soil is loose and black for over a foot down. Knowing what was coming, I "liberated" some cuttings off a beautiful wild rambling rose on the fence of a nearby cow pasture back in the spring; they are rooting nicely, and one of them will go right over his grave beside the fence, where I know he will fertilize it and give us joy for years to come. Not to mention, Jerry/Gasman kindly traded me for a "Terrier" razor with a near exact likeness of our Pappy stamped on the tang, which I will use with fond memories for the rest of my days.

So sorry to hear about Pappy, Aaron. He looked like a lovely little fella. No words can console, only time can heal.

You'll end up not wanting to give Lia back
