Lyme disease is nasty. We get our dogs tested every year now that it’s in Ontario. Stella, our now 12-year old golden tested positive for it a couple of years ago. Even though she wasn’t showing any symptoms, we got her on antibiotics right away.

I now put DEET on the dogs whenever we go out near bush or tall grass just to help ensure those nasty ticks don’t latch on on. Also helps keep the skeeters, deer flies and other nasty bugs off the pups.

We have friends who live in the interior of British COlumbia. They have a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix and a large black lab. They worked as a team to tree a bear a month or so ago. The protective instinct of those dogs is amazing.

Yeah, trust me. No one is breaking into my house. He's a great big scary thing that could literally tear you up if he wanted to. They're really smart though. He's really a big baby but even playing with him you get the sense it's a good thing he's playing. People here in the south use them to hunt ferel pigs. They were bred for lion hunting and I have to say since we've had him I haven't seen a single lion in our yard.

Good company for a fishing trip. At least they won't drink all your beer.

I did see something pop up on "Dogs" here yesterday & have been meaning to check it out but I've had a lot on my plate.
I'm still caring for these 3 pups I picked up in the middle of a farm road May 13 & now they are around 13 1/2 weeks old. One male & two females which I have named Rowdy, Suzy Q & Brandy. They still had hookworms after a vet visit Tuesday so they gave me a different wormer, a liquid, one per pup for 3 days. I go out in the back yard & pick up after them, always have, even for my boy who I lost Feb. 16. Just got done with the worm meds for the pups. I hope it is all good but at their age, Rowdy has been trying to hump either of the other 2 females. Rowdy is the biggest & was around 18 lbs Tuesday. The females were around 16 going on 17 lbs. They all now jump up on my sofa & want to be near dad. At times I refer to them as 3 little angels but other times I refer to them as the Terrible Trio.

Thanks! When I first took them to the vet the day after I rescued them, they said the male seemed rowdy so I said "well I guess that is his name", Rowdy (Yates) after Clint Eastwood on Rawhide. I love watching old westerns plus a few other things like Yellowstone w/Kevin Costner & more. Back on subject I was thinking about Creedence Clearwater Revival when I named Suzy (Q). Brandy just popped into my head because the third female needed a name. I know I mentioned this before but my dog that passed Feb.16 from cancer was 8 1/2 yrs old & was a yellow lab/pit mix & 85 lbs. He was the best dog, so smart & was protective over me & his territory. The vet said these pups appear to be a black lab/pit mix which is crazy but I believe that was God's doing.

There is an old saying that we get the dog(s) we need. Enjoy your new pack. They will love you unconditionally.

When rescuing them, I was able to get 2 of them pretty quick although they were so scared after being dumped out of another vehicle. The 3rd one jumped across a ditch with water in it from a recent flood & went into some heavy brush that was above my knees but I had my cowboy boots on with jeans & was hoping there wasn't a big water moccasin in there. I had to get it or it was about to cross a barbed wire fence into a cow pasture. I got it after seeing the brush move about 3 feet away from me & I was spreading it apart with my arms & got poison ivy/oak but I'd do it all over again if I had to.
Animals are innocent unlike humans so they deserve better when some lowlife does what this person did!
