We had our much loved 13&1/2 year old Golden Retriever Bentley put down at noon yesterday. He was worn out and had not been able to stand up unassisted for the past month or so. Once up he could walk for a few minutes but that was the extent of it. He was scared and wanted constant company to help reassure him through these difficult past few weeks. We were up at all hours of the night to stroke him and express our love until he fell back asleep. He was a shinning star among our many wonderful dogs over the years. Tuesday night his breathing was very labored and we finally got him to rest with his head on his favorite pillow. Yesterday we held him and said good by with many tears and words of comfort. All of us who love our pets understand that letting go is our final responsibility and reward for their dedicating their lives to us. RIP Bentley you were Californias Gold and will always have a place in our hearts. A pic of Ben as a pup and a pic at the peak of his
life just having had a swim in the Carmel River and the ocean on the California coast.

My heart goes out to you for your loss. My dog Sebastian sits on my mantel. His box contains his ashes, his collar and leash. My big boy cat, Prince and his mother, Lil Mama are in little wooden boxes on my work table where I eat breakfast with them every morning. They are gone, but they are still here. In our hearts. In our thoughts. And in every waking moment of every day. Their sister/daughter reminds me daily of how fortunate I am to have and have had these little soul mates. The Universe will bring the next phase of animal presence to you, but probably when you least expect it.
