I was fishing last spring and lost the set screw for the flint. I bought another lighter rather than send mine off and wait for the long process- (I hear it is long and arduous experience to get repairs etc). I cannot say as I have not sent the new one in for screws yet- but i plan on getting as many of the removable parts as possible when i do return it.
Anyway, that is the "old boy" : once you have one you cannot imagine life without it

Holli,
It's not an authentic Old Boy, but Nibo makes something similar, and a friend who has one (who bought it after being jealous of my briar-and-gold Old Boy, which is unfortunately now lost) got a Nibo, which is basically a knock-off of the Old Boy at a fraction of the price. He's been surprisingly happy with it. The chain smokeshops (I can't remember the names) usually have them, and they're available on ebay.
Actually, your post reminded me that I've been desiring a sterling silver lift arm dunhill to replace the Old Boy, which I had forgotten about!

Thanked: 1Many people enjoy collecting lighters. I am not a smoker but I like to have lighters or matches handy.

Thanks for the heads up, Cass. I did some poking around via Google, and I found very mixed reviews of the Nibo version.
Seeing this thread pop up reminded me that I still want an Old Boy.
By the way, I came across a version of the Corona Roller that is designed as a pipe lighter. Does anyone know anything about it?

Did anybody already mention evans lighters? they are only good for small cigars or patient people. no good in the wind, small flame not good for pipes (although in a pinch it'll work) what I love is that they hold fuel like nobodies business. I've always hated the fact that zippos just evaporate out all their fuel if let sit a couple of days. pain in the butt. I have an evans that no joke about a year since the last time I used it (again, not great for pipes and not first choice on cigars, but if you smoke cigarettes man get one) and it still lit right up. cool art deco lighters.
oh, another thing on gas lighters and taste affect, in case somebody didn't put it, when lighting a cigar you don't have to puff on it, takes a bit longer but really the right way to do it is to just keep heating and rotating. if you do that, then make the first puff an exhale rather than inhale it will help eliminate flavor contamination.

old boy fan boy again
well, if you want a nibo or other knockoff: do not handle the old boy.
Cass sorry to hear of your loss.
