Thanked: 6Buffalo Trace. It's $30 a bottle, and better IMHO than pretty much any bourbon out there. Basil's is good too, when I go out its usually Knob Creek because that's what they have. Jefferson's Reserve, Woodfords and Bookers are also nice. But Buffalo is the best I've ever had.

My Favorite Bourbons
Bourbon is definately my drink of choice. I like those that have aged a bit and certainly have a strong finish.
My favorites are (in no particular order):
1.) Woodford Reserve
2.) Jefferson's Reserve
3.) Black Maple Hill
4.) Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve
5.) Four Roses
6.) Bookers
7.) Eagle Rare
Any of these are great drinks with nice finishes. I simply choose whatever strikes my mood.

Thanked: 7I have an uncle who works at a distillery in Bardstown, where basically all bourbon is made. He had a bottle of cask strength bourbon, if there is such a thing, that was incredible. I have never heard of cask strength bourbons actually being sold. I think this was more of a "help yourself when no one is around" bottle.
I remember, when I was a kid, one of the storage buildings caught on fire. They are basically six or seven story warehouses, stacked floor to ceiling with bourbon barrels. Flaming bourbon ran from the building, and down into the river. There must have been some happy catfish that night.

Hey Ogle,
If there's a place you frequent, ask the owner/manager/clerk if their distributor has it available and if he can get you a bottle or two in the next shipment. Most places are happy to oblige a request from a good customer so long as the distributor has it available. The store has a book of what's available from the distributor they'll check.
I had to special order the champagne for our wedding and all he did was look it up and see if it was available, then said to come back in a week.
