Thanked: 39Evan Williams
I like Evan Williams black lable and sometimes get the single barrel.
I prefer mine slightly chilled in my Evan Williams glass.
Very Nice!

Okat. Derby's over. I had 2 juleps and I'm in good spirits. Time to move on to more important things. What's your recipe for a Manhattan? Mine:
lots of ice.
4 glugs of Evan Williams
1 glug Tribuno dry vermouth
2 drops sweet vemouth
2 splashes bitters
1 splash water

I visited Louisville last week for the first time ever and of course had to try a Mint Julep for the first time also. Great drink, great city, great folks.

Thanked: 195Here is a trick I learned from a local cigar bar here in Houston. Get a gallon or larger size glass container. Fill said container with Bing cherries when they are in season. Cover the cherries with your favorite bourbon or whiskey, I use Woodford Reserve or Makers. Set the container aside in a cool place and let it set for one month. The result is wonderful, but don't try to eat the cherries, they get pretty nasty.
Regards,
Mark

Thanked: 11Bourbon!
Maker's Mark is a baby step up from Jim Beam. I can barely drink it any more. Too smoky, too sweet, and not especially smooth. Was classy when I was 19, but as my taste for bourbon developed Maker's lost out just after Smirnoff Vodka.
My favorite generally available bourbon is Eagle Rare. Consistently amazing. Not too sweet, not too much oak, extremely smooth. Everything from Buffalo Trace's distillery is great for the price.
Someone mentioned Van Winkle's. There are a few different varieties, the best being the 23 year (Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve). It's unlike other bourbons. For the bourbon connoisseur, it is the best on the market. For the poor recent college grad, $200/bottle makes it a market I can't delve into so often.
I also highly endorse Elijah Craig. It's got great character--more than Woodford or Maker's for a lower price. Still, my go-to--the one that's always in my cabinet--is Eagle Rare.

Arrggghhh...
I should have known better. Really. I saw something new at the grocery yesterday. Jim Beam with Black Cherry flavoring. I know, it even sounded awful but curiosity got the best of me and I bought a bottle. This product is so vile that I lack the communication skills to adequately convey my disgust. Sweeter than pancake syrup with an icky artificial cherry flavoring (Koolaid?) behind everything. Be warned.
