My new CCW. S&W 340 M&P NO LOCK !!!! 357magnum, or 38spl +P. Scandium frame, steel barrel and cylinder. Shoots fine with either round. Got a Desantis Clip Grip on it so I carry it 'naked' with no holster. Great CCW.

With that short a barrel, what is the distance at which you still have enough certainty that you'll hit whatever it is you're shooting at?

I practice with it @ about 10 to 15 feet. It is a 'belly' gun, and certainly not for distance. If I were at the range I might mess around with 25 yards just for curiousity. but in a self defence situation, especially if there were bystanders, I would never risk stray rounds at any appreciable distance.
I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but there have been many murders committed during robberies in my neighborhood. Some a stones throw from my door. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

For indoor scenarios, I suppose that it is good enough. And the shorter barrel makes it convenient.
As much as I loved that 8" barrel .44 from Lynn, I wouldn't know how on earth to conceal that porta-cannon

I don't have it anymore, sold it, but here is one version of a CCW 44 magnum ......
Was not the most comfortable to carry concealed, and I didn't. But for someone like say Glen, living off the beaten path, and in bear country, it would be nice to pack in a belt holster open carry.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Exactly
I have all four of the set( .357 mag - .41 mag - .44 spl - .44 mag) but I most often carry the 629 (.44 mag) when I am at home..
Have a nice Spring Clip Holster that fits it and the 686 (.357)
the two in the middle are too rare to really shoot
Amazingly accurate, but the have Stupid Muzzle flash and side flash, would blind you and deafen you at night in a house
