I remember the PBR song from the mid 'fifties, when, very small I lived with my parents for a few months in the Belvedere Hotel W48th St NYC, which is still there, before moving to the Westwood Manor, Wilshire Blvd LA, which isn't, for a few more months. Rita Hayworth high-tailed it from Dick Haymes and moved into the next door apartment with her two little girls, Becky and Yazzie.
What's next Ford trucks? Well RH had a jet black Thunderbird, one of the first generation ragtops........ I bet you'd like that now eh? America, I'm very serious about this, make the best cars the World has ever seen. The only Italian exotica that are still rolling are the ones originally fitted with Detroit V8s. All the rest have succumbed to electrical fires. Although I mainly drive a BMW 728i now, in the past I've had a '64 Mercury Comet, a '68 Cougar, and up until very recently, a '79 Pontiac TransAm 403. If I could have any car in the World hand made from parts it would be a '73 TransAm 455 Super Duty. Buy yourself a Rolls Royce and you will find that 6.7 V8 is an aluminium casting of a Buick Rocket, and the rear axle is re-enamelled Chevy. How Americans can prefer a Corolla or Civic to the rumble of a Chevy 357 or Cleveland 351 is absolutely beyond my ken.
Cowboy boots? Black cherry cordovan Dan Posts and black eelskin Justins, which fit like gloves, ha ha!
Chewing tobacco? No Skoal thank you very much, but I am getting increasingly worried about the future of Pall Mall King Size Plain, if more people don't realise you're surely better off smoking one or two of those rather that five filtered cheap horrors. They don't sell them here in England, so I have to get them ferried over from Belgium, where incidentally they are considerably cheaper than they would be here, where everything is taxed to death. Petrol is currently £1.25 a litre, which I think works out at $9.15 a gallon! Have you fallen on the floor?
Oops running late, but one more thing: There's nothing more American than a Bobby "Blue" Bland record, World's greatest living singer, God bless him!Last edited by Blackpool; 04-02-2011 at 03:46 PM. Reason: couldn't stop spouting.
