thanks I clean allot of hats, some are turned inside out and remade backwards, the front will be the back and back front to give the old hat some new life or to hide a hole .

Thanked: 16Interesting thread.
Man, that sucks about the Italian hat...that sounds like what my first wife did to my record collection.
My granddad used to wear fedoras all the time. After he passed I don't know what happened to them so I don't have anything vintage.
O.K., here's a few pics...
The first one is a Stetson Sovereign Series Temple model in Caribou color that I bought about 5 years ago. The hat is not vintage but the double breasted pin striped suit is...Dad bought that in the late 1940s when he got back from WWII.
Next one is a cheap wool hat I bought about 15 years ago. It doesn't have a lining and I don't remember the brand (it's not on the sweatband).
The next one is a cheap Stevens 3X Beaver I bought at Harrington's Men's Shop in Tulsa about 30 years ago. The brim is getting a little scuffed on the edges.
Next one is a cheap Adam brand canvas type one that I bought in N'Awlins a little over 15 years ago.
I also have a nice 6X Stetson Rancher in Mist Grey, but I didn't want to dig it out of storage.
I've been thinking about a Dobbs, but...well, ya know.

Thanked: 235You gentlemen who wear hats are onto a good thing. I'm going back to Australia in a few weeks for a holiday and being a person with not a lot of hair I needed a hat. I don't like baseball caps so I went looking for a real hat. I found this at a market here in Bangkok. It's only a cheap thing made from synthetic materials made in Thailand but it has given me a taste of style. I'm going to have to get my hands on a couple of real Fedoras. I think I have one in storage in Australia somewhere.
Sorry for the crappy pictures.

It's good to hear that there are others who don't think a ballcap is a real hat. I never had more than one or two "gimmies" and I've long since thrown them away. The only thing close to a ballcap that I'll wear is the camaflague USMC cover I bought from Sgt Grit.
As for the hat I wear it's a "Beaver Brand Hats" style 1344 purchased from Husky Hat Shop in Wichita Falls, Tx. Here it's refered to as the "Tom Landry"
Beaver Brand Hats - Custom Made Hats Since 1860
The funniest thing about wearing a hat like this is all the old women, walking with their husbands, that look at me and smile then look at their husbands with a sour "You use to have a nice hat, too - you idiot!" look.
Makes my day.

You guys are awesome! Yet another one of my penchant's is pursued on this site! I am totally in to the fedora thing..I have a Borsalino (the best I own. It is amazingly light!)..A Hopkins that has a brim so wide that it could double as an mtn outdoorsy cowboy/fedora, and a Pendleton wool fedora that is my true out doors hiking hat..

Thanked: 39Oh ,yeah, Australia! That's that small island off the coast of New Zealand isn't it?
Seriously though, I have only one word for you: Akubra! They make some of the finest hats on earth (highly regarded in the states, and for good reason). Funny thing though, the last time I was in Sidney, I looked high and low for some and only found the lower end wool and none of their finer felt hats. Perhaps you will have better luck.....
In Bangkok a Cuenca for day to day use and for nights out I would recommend a nice Monte Christi Panama. Felts would be uncomfortably hot there me thinks.
