Thanked: 235This was at a 60's fance dress party for my father's 60th. I was supposed to be an FBI agent because I don't like hippies. Hippies were always complaining about the government, the FBI and The Man. So I was The Man. Anyway, this hat was bigger than I remembered it, but I like it and it will be going to Bangkok with me when I return home in about two weeks time.

Thanked: 586I have succeeded in making arrangements with my brother and the veterinarian of Basil and Mr. Toes. They both have a list of odd jobs they are willing to pay me to complete. With that little bit of extra cash, I have ordered a new hat for the summer months:
This is a Panama hat even though it is technically a Fedora. It is called a "Panama" after the material from which it is woven. These hats are almost all made in Equador, by hand. Here is a little video showing some of the process:

Howdy,
I'm relatively new to the forum. I'm almost never seen without a fedora. I have about 15 or so. My favorites are Panamas. I came by the habit of wearing fedoras quite early. This pic of me was taken about 1950. (Yeah, I'm a geezer...)

Thanked: 235When I first started shaving with a straight razor I thought one razor should be enough. Now I have thirty something razors. When I first read this thread I remembered that I have a Fedora in my cupboard back in Australia. I brought it back to Thailand thinking this one hat should be enough. But last night/early this morning I won the bidding for this. I imagine this could develop into another acquisition disorder.

Thanked: 1185Both of my panama's are from Casey at Panama Hats Direct. One is a Havana and the other an Optimo. These are generally my lids of choice for the warmer months. Way too hat for a wool felt or fur hat. I usually begin wearing my heavier hats long about October.
Ogorshok,
Quite the lid for such a little kid. Clearly you were destin for dapper greatness even back then. The older I get, the better I was
