I have been trying to learn german. But have a way to go. Me and the wife are planning on visiting Germany some time next year

Both English and German are germanic languages with similar grammar so learning German would be easy.

Finnish is a part of Baltic languages with different logic. Other related languages are Estonian, Meä, Mari and Kven. Luckily, and becouse of the history in the Sw parts of the country most folks are bilingual (Fin/Swe). Swedish being part of the Germanic family so learning English or German is somewhat easy. People in the eastern parts of the country speak Russian as a 2nd or 1st language as naturally as we speak Swedish.

We have 3 official languages: Finnish, Swedish and Sami but Sami is official just in the Sami country up north.

Oh wow. Now Russian would be interesting. I play a game called war thunder and a lot of the players are Russian. Cyrillic is far beyond me

While I'll freely admit that even though I was born and raised speaking English I still have much to learn about it. When my son was in High School he really wanted to learn German. He had the exact opposite 'problem' of his mother as he easily learned how to speak it but writing it just didn't happen so he was forced to take Spanish and his final grade was a C but at least he fulfilled the requirement for graduation.

My hat's off to Anyone who can manage to at least manage to learn some basic conversation of another language

I'm still learning my native tongue, English...

While I would love to visit with Tomi in Finish, I can't see that happening... I guess if we ever met, we could just point, drink and laugh...

Now my true language would be Scottish Gaelic... But again, some days with plain ol' English

Well I'm still plugging away at learning my fathers language of Welsh. Been at it for years, off and on, and still not there yet. Same can be said for my English, but at least I can make myself understood to other 'english' speakers. I could hold a basic conversation in Welsh, but that's about it. I would love to get good at many languages, but I can't see that happening. Spanish, French, Russian, Farsi and Mandarin would be a good start I reckon.

Been trying to learn Russian now for about the last two years. I have a resident where I work who is an elderly Babushka and she try's to help but it is definitely a language you have to be immersed in.

Scots Gaelic !! Yes !.......My Step dad was from Glasgow(RIP) and I remember back in my high school days ,my buddies would come over and when he would greet them,they would get a confused look on their faces.His brogue was pretty thick back then. I could understand him but, my friends had a time of it. Scots Gaelic would be a fun one to learn but, I also wouldn't mind learning French Canadian and Finnish. And I would be the same as you when it comes to Tomi. Might not get the lingo down but, alot of laughin and drinkin and such would still happen I think.

So met up with 32t and his wife today. We had a great time.We sat down at the Tobacco shop for around and hour or two and had a puff,then went over to My favorite Cajun joint and we chowed and had some drinks and listened to some awesome Blues. We had Blackened Gator tail bites for an appetizer(Like Buttuh !) ,I had a Hurricane or two and both 32 and his wife had Abita, a Louisiana beer. Then the missus had Blackend Chicken n Cajun Rice and us men folk had Shrimp n Grits(shell on the shrimp mmmm!!) ,again one of my favorite Bayou dishes. The Blues Trio that was playing mentioned to the Audience about an upcoming gig where they were going to open for B.B. King.....that's cool. After supper we went back to the shop whereas 32 proceeded to buy a few tins of tobacco while his wife was eyeballing the Porto as was I as well. She ended up with a Tawney and I ended up with a Ruby Port.Also,one of the clerks bestowed upon me a tin he had mixed up with Pilots mix (Fragrant matured Virginia Cake) and some MacBaren Honey & Chocolate . What a wonderful mix. It's like a smokey dessert with moxie !! So it was an awesome meeting with another brother. Tonight's relaxation is a Viking Squashed Tomato full of Bavarian Baron(that's what the guys at the shop dubbed it) and a nice glass of Fine Ruby Porto......Deeeeelish !!
