    Yo WBGV,

The Frog rules! I hope you enjoy it as much as I !!! I just replentished my supply at Old Virginia Tobacco, Richmond. I think I'll have some now in my short, squat Savinelli.

A nice long Puff on the Porch this morning of one of my local shops blends called "Edmonton Mist" in one of my Nording Freehands. Very relaxing enjoyable smoke with a coffee.

Yesterday, I came home from a weekend in the mountains, and on my porch was a box. It was a starter kit, and more than a bit more, from NoseWarmer. It was one of many generous examples of kindness I've seen on these boards since I've been hanging around. Another great example of brotherhood and the desire to see someone start out right in some of the finer things in life. To say that I was awestruck would be an understatement. That being said, I visited a friend around the corner and he helped me start out. He suggested starting with the wood pipe, NoseWarmer sent two pipes, due to it being already broke in. Around 2200 last night I set my butt on my porch, and fired it up, Black Cadvanish. I had my trusty dog laying by my smoker out front, perfect cool breeze cooling off the 95 degrees of earlier, perfect. It was so calming, relaxing and other words that end in ing but mean awesome. Just finishing up, my, now somewhat trustworthy dog saw a cat and took off like a turpentined cat. I was so relaxed, I didn't really mind, she's always come back before, and she did, albeit one and a half hours later. Back to the pipe, I see very quickly that there is a learning curve. I'm green at smoking a pipe, the only experience with them was decades ago, with green in them, hey, I'm in Cali; what can I say?

I'd like to take this time to thank NoseWarmer, and all of those who have offered advice to me. I'm sure that there will be more questions to come from me, but also know there will be plenty of help from a great bunch of people to answer them.

    Thanks, Don

So I am glad to say that I am starting to work this out. Although I often find i start to get a harsh taste but some careful tamping gets me back to a smooth taste. Not greatly consistent but coming on.

Also I am interested in the idea of twists, any recomendations for a beginner?

+100 University Flake is a fine smoke indeed. For the codgers among us who fancy the vitamin N jackboot to the face, Irish Flake is a good bet as well. Very full flavored not as aromatic as UF but very good indeed. A bowl of Irish Flake with a good stout cup of joe in the morning is a match made in heaven.
