Thanked: 1185Peterson University Flake in a bent Molina
Molina is an Italian made pipe not high end or extremely expensive but a great smoker just the same. The really special thing about this evening's smoke is that this is my first brand spanking new (non-estate) pipe requisition in over 30 years! Although it has a thick bit and looks like a ton of pipe, this is a very comfortable pipe to just dangle and enjoy. As for University Flake, in my estimation (YMMV, etc.) it is the ONLY serviceable aromatic blend on the market today. In my experience, there are plenty of aromatic blends that smell wonderful. The problem seems to be that they are built with only that in mind (i.e. smoking manners and vitamin N content normally leave much to be desired.) Most other aromatics (for me at least) are soupy, hot and bitey with little to no nic kick. Not so with University Flake, it not only smokes like a dream, it smells nice and has a decent nick kic. I also scored a can of Irish Flake this evening that I'll be burning tomorrow. Irish Flake is another favorite with at least 5X the recommended daily allowance of nicotine that a growing crumudgeon needs. The older I get, the better I was

Thanked: 1185Peterson's Irish Flake in my new pipe. The coffee was good this morning too. Some dark roast Costa Rican stuff that SWMBO picked up in Safety Harbor. Now off for a shower and shave and on to the Flea Market
Back from the Flea Market, no shave gear to speak of. My grief therapy is of course a pipe and some afternoon refreshments (3X PBR in a huge Old Man Mug)

On a fall day, what's better than relaxing with some Cornell & Diehl "Autumn Evening" in a sweet smoking corn cob pipe?

Still shaving, smoking, drinking, etc guys, it has just been......well a down right shitty month for me. Been smoking everything from my cobs, to my Nordings, the Joe Case, my Pete, a Greek Uhle, a Tim Thorpe, my Jirsa, you name it. 99.99% of the time I only get to enjoy my pipe on the drive either to or from work.

Thanked: 2This pipe is very old in my family. Well over one hundred years, now passed down to me. Unfortunately, it does not have the original stem, but this bowl is enchanting. Smokes with a smooth effortless draw and no gurgle. I've smoked quite a few bowls through this and there isn't a tobacco it doesn't like from lower end to way on up. The size however doesn't suit my fancy for piping on the go, but I do enjoy breaking it out on occasion.

Thanked: 1185Wow, that sounds vaguely familiar, hopefully the s**t cloud blows by quickly and you can get back to a more leisurely existence. Hang in there, Brother.
@EricofAriamis: What a beautiful free-hand! You're right though, they don't make very good out and about pipes. I think they were designed for back in the day when gentlemen sat in the parlor after dinner and read books in their easy chairs. I have a meerschaum or two that I feel the same way about. Great smokers but just not terribly utilitarian and definitely not great candidates for what I call "background smoking" that is to say, casually doing something else with a pipe hanging out of your gob that goes barely noticed. Totally cool though that your family has passed down such beautiful heirlooms.Last edited by 1OldGI; 11-04-2012 at 12:57 AM.

Hard to say what the smoke of the day would be. Right now, I'd have to say one of my Tim Wests with IRC Balkan Supreme. Sorry, no pics.

Is that a picture of the draft hole going into the bowl?

Skiff
Had a hard day yesterday, as I wrote already in the SOTD.
Muscle soreness...because of the relocation of my son in Erfurt, Thuringia...
Have a nice day.
