What are you looking for...???
If you would lke to get into the Latikia blends, but want to stay with a "aromatic", "The Phill" turned me on to "Whiskey Biscut Gravy" from Just for Him out of Springfield... Welcome to Our Shop, Just For Him
"This delightful composition of Vanilla and Latakia is superbly suited for the person who is looking for an anytime smoke. With enough body and character to keep your attention from start to finish, this tobacco is highly recommendable."
Or another one that I also like is "Northwoods" from Boswells in PA... It's more of a Scottish from what I can tell with the Black Cavendish added... Welcome to Boswells
"Northwoods-Full bodied and full flavor a deeply complex English but with a smooth and mild base of Latakia along with Toasted Virginias. J.M. had blended Northwoods for himself to smoke, but then the customers started asking him what he was smoking and his answer was "have a bowl". Northwoods has become one of our most popular English blends"Last edited by NoseWarmer; 12-15-2012 at 06:28 PM.

Re: Pipe of the Day
And it's VERY tasty... I was leary of English/Latikia Blends at first (bad xperence when I first started soking a pipe)... Northwoods hits thte spot without punching you in tahe face like other blends...[/hQUOTE]
That sounds like what I'm looking for. Something stronger. But not kick my but strong
If you order, get at least 4oz... You will either love it or just like it... If you just like it... Let me know and I'll take it off your hands...
Also, if you love it, you won't have enough on hand if you order less than 4oz... I was smoking back to back bowls and it didn't take long to go through 4oz's...
A longer stem pipe works best for it... Gives the smoke time to cool and develope before it hits the taste buds...Last edited by NoseWarmer; 12-15-2012 at 10:52 PM.

As far as i've experienced with smoking pipe more or less than 30, last 5 years pipe only (and snuff), sweet aromatics almost always have not much nicotine at all.
That's why a jump from aromatics into 'traditional' blends is huge. There are so many great blends around there. Guess i've found the 4 or 5 i could be happy with the rest of my days.
Now, Virginia is a base of almost all tobaccos. if you want to try 'pure' VA blends then SG's Full Virginia or Best Brown Flakes would be worth trying.
With the traditional English blends i would suggest something like Peterson's 'Old Dublin'. There are other great blends out there as well, but with these you get the idea what it's all about.
If you want to try something with lot of nicotine, then Peterson Irish Flake would be something to try. Something that is both aromatic and strong is maybe SG's 1792 flake. It's either love it or hate it.

I think a key consideration when moving into the English genre is figuring out how you get along with latakia. The English blends I listed are pretty light in latakia with just a dab for effect, others (i.e. Dunhill Night Cap and 965) have a heavier latakia content. Since you're not real sure what your tastes are in this regard, I'd start out with the lighter stuff and move up the spectrum to the heavier latakia blends if your tastes dictate. For the record, latakia content does not always equate to a super strong tobacco, it's more a condimental tobacco that's typically added to other stuff (in the case of true English blends, Virginia and or various types of orientals). It does however impart a very woodsy, smokey flavor that doesn't agree with everyone.Last edited by 1OldGI; 12-16-2012 at 03:13 AM.
