I am experimenting with a pipe. I am having fun with growing my own. I am having fun experimenting with commercial options.
I was hoping that you or others would be willing to share their experiences.

I've never tried growing myself, but i know some enthusiasts still do. Closest thing that comes to mind is machorca that used to be around when i was kid. Haven't missed it. For some reason self grown tobacco is called 'kessu' ('sergeant') here.
Tobacco arrived in this country at the days of Thirty Years War when returning soldiers bought some with them. Other group that became smokers and importers were sailors. Pretty soon it became very popular and growing it here started as well. I rerember reading about field marshal De la Gardie (known here as 'Lazy Jacob') complaining about he knows no single soldier who wouldn't smoke and drink too much. Nothing new under the sun, as to say. That happened in about 1640.
Or another case (1647) where city chancellor of my home town gave a law that denied university students from changing their books into tobacco and alcohol.
In time we had about hundreds of small tobacco blenders, but nowadays only local brand: Kilta ('Lodge'). No good at all. Every now and then it's still possible to find old tobacco cases from flea markets etc.
