    Thank you in advance, donv
    Donv,

My favorites for pure VA tobaccos are Capstan Blue (#1 for me), SG's Full Virginia and Best Brown Flakes, Synjeco's Bad Nun.
There are several other excellent tobaccos out there but usually most blends are more or less mixtures (not that it would be a bad thing, it's up to your tastes)

SG makes several great not so pure VA blends, as does Rattray and JF Germain & son as well.

    Awesome pipe for the money...

That pipe is mental in a good way, I'm loving that! What wood is it? Is that spalting at the front of the bowl? Have you fired it up yet? So many questions!

    Don,

The only problem with this blend is it's not available in the USA... And everything I had on hand has gone up in smoke!

No I haven't smoked it yet... It goes under the Christmas Tree

Kurt, the maker said it is Beech from Northern Wisconsin... He also makes them from Maple and Cherry Wood...

As for the marks on the front, it's his trademark... Bear Claw Marks...

For few days we had about -23 C (-10 F) here, but now it's only -6 C (21 F). Almost warm, nice weather. Snow about 40 cm.
Do not want to think how it'll be after a month or two.

Yesterday's smoke was some 1Q in a basket briar after lunch and Don's blend in a MM cob after dinner. I need to fight the obsessive urge to maniacally tamp the contents of the bowl while smoking. I want it to look neat and orderly in there and it is creating too tight a bowl, hence relights and hard puffing. If I leave well enough alone it smokes smooth, slow and sweet. The more tamping, the more gurgle and goop. The less tamping the nicer the smoke and a nice dry ash leftover.
