I've never heard about such thing. I have no experience of any kind on Brigham pipes. Could it be that it isn't actually stained but finished with some other method (coloured wax or varnish etc). Properly stained and dried item, be it pipe or any other, shouldn't leave no color.

The guy at the shop said it might be because I'm smoking too hot, but I doubt it because I dont feel any heat while I'm smoking. Regardless I'm going to take it back in a few days and get it replaced no matter what :P

I've seen that on two pipes, one was my friend's Brigham, the other was my Vander Elst. But it only left staining on pipe cleaners, not on the hand while smoking.

I have 2 Johs pipes, both with reddish stains, that do that when I smoke them. I think it's a defect in the stain. Once it's dry and waxed it shouldn't come off. Won't hurt the pipe but if they are willing to exchange it than go for it.

I've been smoking this little pipe lately, just one or two puffs at night (I gave up smoking cigarettes on the 1st of January). It's marked 'ROPP Junior' on the bottom. The bowl (which appears to be a 'whole' branch of something or other is cracked, but it still works OK. The stem also seems to be a 'whole' branch of something or other. It's very nice and light...
