So i put my 2 month old Tinsky Coral Canadien on the center console (arm rest) of my 01 GMC pick-up,and got out to pump some gas. Upon climbing back into the drivers seat, i leaned over to roll up the pass side window(no power windows) and i heard this loud SNAP. I said to myself ,dont F......g tell me i just broke my pipe.Luck being on my side today HaHa, i just broke the mouthpiece flush with the pipe. Sending it back to Mark for a new mouth peice,so i guess it could have been worse.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. It seems nothing will make you cuss more than hearing that tell tale SNAP. Like most pipe smokers, I have a core of probably 10 or 12 pipes that are my blue chippers. There are probably at least that many that I'll only occassionally pick up. I never quite figured out those occassional smokers. They aren't bad smoking pipes, in fact when I do pick them up I normally smoke them and say to myself, "Gosh, I don't know why I don't smoke that pipe more often it really is a good smoker." Of course I promise myself I'll smoke it more often and never do but alas I digress. It seems like every pipe I've ever broken has come from the first category. Indeed if I broke one of the occassional smokers, I might be a bit miffed for a minute but in reality it wouldn't be that big a loss. The blue chippers however, are the ones I've always seemed to break.

My most recent incident was the exception. It was an occassional smoker but it really ticked me off to break it. It was a huge Laughing Bachus Meershaum that I bought the last time I was in Turkey. A beautiful pipe and a great smoker. I think I gave about $60 for it in Turkey but doubt I could have replaced it for less than about $400. Had finished up a smoke and was removing the ashes into a trash can. I tapped it gently on the side of the trash can and suddenly, inexplicably the shank cracked in half longwise (the stone, not the bit.) Unrepairable but it took me about a year and a half to finally discard my poor broken friend. Man that was a beauty of a pipe.
The older I get, the better I was

Ah yes, I'll have to drag out my own Pete Churchy. It hasn't had a turn for a while.
