Well you could if your so inclined and see if you can twist it out. But and it's a big BUT you could end up cracking the tenon. If it were me???? Leave it alone and enjoy it the way it is.

I removed one from a 30 plus year old pipe my dad gave me back in the day. I used a pair of pliers, the kind wiht the jagged teeth on the inner most portion of the jaws. I got a good firm grip on the stinger and ever so gently applied force little by little in a clockwise fashion until I felt it beginning to move. I then gently twisted it out of the tenon without a problem. The pipe smoked so much better after that and it is easier to clean as well.

I agree with everyone here. Brand has little to do with a good smoker. The briar I removed the tenon from is a shop brand (no name) London briar. 30 years and still smoking it. It is still my favorite and I go to it about twice as much as any other pipe I have.

Enjoy your Christmas and New Years and your new treasure. I hope that stinger comes out easily as mine did. Just take care and apply steadily increasing force, just enough to get it to give without applying too much as to cause harm to the tenon. Good luck!

Last night we got nice weather here as the remains of hurricane Dagmar struck here. At the neighborhood trees cracked like matches and few houses lost their roofs. Roads were cut for few hours and we lost electricity for almost 12 hours. Besides one old bridge that got destroyed in the next island there was no serious damages and as far as i know, nobody got seriously hurt. Although i'm sure that many people were seriously mentally damaged as they couldn't watch TV or Facebook for such a long time
So today the storm was almost gone but instead of sitting indoors without electricity we just took a long walk at the neighborhood. Had my Stanwell pipe with some UF. Also two poor pics of dogs and wifey, dressed for the storm.
Weatherman just warned that there's another storm coming this evening and police asked people to stay in. I hope everything goes well again. Me and the dogs still have our evening walk to do but obviously we stay away from the forest.
