To me that's part of what makes them a good work pipe. I don't totally chew them up but my cobs definitely have tooth marks on them.

The forever stems are a good idea and I do like the way they make a cob pipe look. It is amazing how much a stem can make a difference in the aesthetics of a pipe.
No hard feelings here, I have my prize cobs for regular smoking and I have my work pipes too... They are the ones that if something happens to them, oh well... As for the stems... It's not only pleaseing to the eye, but it does help the smoke out too...

    Billiard: English (Frog Morton OTT)
    Canadian: aromatic cavendish
    Cheap meerschaum: aromatic cavendish

I'm getting some Bob's Chocolate Flake today in the mail and was going to put that in the no-name. Does meerschaum ghost flavors?
In my opinion, there really is no number of pipes needed for diffrent blends... I know OLD guys that smoke anything and everything in one pipe... So far you look like you're doing pretty good...

The main reason that I choose Corn Cobs... Is they are cheap... One for every blend...

Good enough for me. I usually avoid heavily flavored aromatics and go for natural stuff.

After two bowls of Bob's Chocolate Flake, I have to say I like the lakeland flavor. Not much chocolate that I can taste, but pretty good. Not something I'm super impressed with, but a good smoke with a decent room note.

ray, i have to agree with you to a point about the cobs being work pipes, accept you see i work around molten copper i will be very angry if i drop mine in a furnace, only cause the bit cost me more than the pipe, but that is a risk im willing to take. and wrx, just run over to john b hayes, in fairfax i think, or if your in winchester, he is on picadilly st. i am positive he will have some cobs for ya to pick up

I have 2 cobs, but I leave them at my girlfriend's place. While nice for a quick smoke they aren't my favorite.

I have met Mr Hayes working at his shop in Fairfax. Really nice guy. I should swing by for some tobacco, but being inside of a crowded mall detracts from my desire to go . Any of his blends you recommend?

I was actually thinking my next pipe should be the Ichabod Crane (corncob churchwarden) from Dave.

wrx, cant tell you about any favorite blends from his shops being i have only been in the winchester shop 2 times, and both times have bought tin'd tobacco, i just happen to know about them since i am close to winchester, dont spend as much time in that town as i used to when i was a younger lad. spend more time in harrisonburg now or days. and you will love the ichabod crane, i ordered just the churchwarden stem for my cobs and love it whenever i use it, which isnt enough.

This evening was Mac Baren Cherry Ambrosia in my Medico Standard. Not really a great smoke, but I'm sure the pipe doesn't help. I can't wait to get my new Brighams.
