Thread: Fountain Pens?

After the recent purchase of the Delta fountain pen, I decided that I wanted a rollerball as well. Sometimes at work when you need to scribble notes really fast, a rollerball is a better option than a fountain pen. So, having a browse through eBay I come across a very nice looking Montegrappa rollerball with sterling silver accents at an excellent price so I'm now the proud owner of this.
The colour is pretty similar to the Delta fountain pen as well which I think will look great in the two pen pouch.

I carry a Lamy Vista daily. I also have a vintage Parker 45, and a Platinum Plaisir. I really love my Lamy though. Writes like a pen that cost's 4x as much!

I'm a Parker 51 fan.
However it's important to remember that it's what you write, not what you write it with, that counts. Good handwriting may look nice, but if it doesn't really say anything, it doesn't matter how nice the pen was.

This thread is perfectly in tune with my thoughts this morning.

I went to bed thinking i should buy a fountain pen tomorrow, how amazing is this forum. Thanks everyone for more great advice.

FP's are one of my other Focus Points. Even though I have more inks than pens lol. I only have a few pens, couple Sheaffer triumph nibs, Pilots, and parker 51's. I picked up the 51's because they where in great looking shape for $2.50 ea Turned out they where like new. They write just fine but I have little interest in them now. However the Triumph nibed Sheaffer pens are calling to me lol.

One thing I enjoy is that I can hunt the same areas and find 2 different treasures. Some antique shops have one of my interests or maybe even both, but I always find something of interest.

The problem is not your pen, or penmanship; it's the paper. Most regular paper today soaks up ink like tissue. It spreads and runs. When writing on good paper the ink will sit up on top of the paper until it dries. You might try a nice pad from Levenger. It costs a little more, but is a real joy to write on. Kind of like having good lather to shave with.

Yes, I love the ritual of writing with a fountain pen. I have a couple and find that when I want to write something meaningful one of those plastic sticks they sell now just won't do.

So I'm glad I saw this thread pop up bc I have always loved the idea of a fountain pen....even had a cheap-o one in college but never went past there. Any tips to help someone get in to fountain pens?? I know they range in price from cheap (ala golden dollar quality) to uber expensive(ala Livi Custom)

here is a place I hang out once in a while. Just like here but with pens, you have way to many choices to get lost in

its not just the pens, its the inks as well. i have the standard blue and black (pelikan) but i also have a range of diamine inks, a couple of greens, imperial purple, chocolate brown and oxblood red. half the fun is being able to swap colours when ever you like unlike most of the biro brigade. i have to keep a biro handy for the self copy forms they use here at work, hohum.

i have a Sailor Sapporo, Lamy Safari, Cross centuary, twsbi 450 (an excellent demonstrator pen, and very good value)

i should like to add that i have no affiliation to any of the above brands, just a happy customer!
