Invicta's that are Swiss made are quality watches. The others, are very hit and miss quality wise. Seiko is much better. Invicta can sell for the prices they do because they mostly copy other brands and source a bunch of parts from China and assemble them in Panama (as I recall) using low wage unskilled workers. They used to make better watches but these days specialize in cheapos with quartz and Chinese mvmts.

Best for the money is very subjective. Rolex, is as far as I know the only brand of watch that you can buy, use nicely for a as long as you want, and sell for a profit.
I've been offered way more for mine than I paid for it back in '99. I don't need the money, and I like that watch, so I will not sell.Last edited by Otto; 12-17-2013 at 12:37 PM. Reason: added link

Well, when you talk money there is what is a bargain meaning getting relatively a lot of watch for the money you spend and then there is the idea of buying a watch which may be way overpriced but the market forces allow you to unload it down the road and make a profit.Iit's totally two different concepts. A Seiko 5 is an example of the first and of course Rolex is the best example of the second.

As long as market demand is large enough to justify the price, it isn't overpriced.

Mechanical all the way, I have a great fascination for mechanical watches, particularly automatic. Watches certainly aren't as common with young people but I see them as a professional necessity when a job requires meetings and/or time recordal.
My current preference is the military style, complemented by a NATO strap (natozulu have a great range and ship internationally) - I find this easiest to dress up or down to suit any occasion. Seiko are also great given the spread in price point, meaning you don't have to spend a fortune to have a nice looking watch, and you can upgrade/opt for a change.

I'm addicted to Timex watches. I've always had good luck with them; the price combined with their reliability make them no-brainers for me, because I'm very hard on my watches. My definition of a "dress watch" is a new Timex that hasn't been dinged or scratched yet! My current favorite is the Timex Depth Gauge, a Christmas gift from my wife.
If there was one single change I'd love for Timex to make is to move to sapphire instead of using mineral glass. I'd gladly pay the difference, because all my Timex watches have scratched glass (except for the Depth Gauge, but that will soon change I'm sure). Can it be barbaric and civilized at the same time?

Thanked: 4My very best favorite, Patek Philippe Calatrava. The simplicity of the beauty. But unfortunately this is just a dream. Dreams, however, everyone needs!

I gave all of my watches away when I retired. Don't miss any of them. : )
