I continue to go back and forth between my Para-Ordnance P-14 (.45 ACP) and Colt Detective Special (.38).
I reload the ammunition myself on a Lee Turret Press. Cheap entry model for beginners that's served me well for 4 years.

Boot knife just seems to always be there as well.
VA CCW reciprocity with other states is a head scratcher at times but Maryland CCW laws have forced me south when M/C riding.

    Cheers

Great Googely Moogely! NYS has finally seen fit to issue me a permit! Soon as I take the required safety courses, I will be upgraded to CCW status.

Now to get a piece of iron... I am sticking with very small frame in the .380 category. I found a SIG that fits my hands remarkably, but it is 200 bucks more than the S&W or near equal stats. Anybody have an opinion on which current manufactures have greater reliability vs price? I dont want to sell ALL my straights to buy a pistol, just SOME of them!

    CCW in NY???
    That is an incredible feat!
Getting one in NY is like getting a BBS shave first time out of the gate!

Remember, even with it, I'm pretty sure you can't carry in NYC.

    Congrats and all the best.

Very True! NYC will not honor permits from other areas of NY. Getting any sort of permit for NYC is as likely as getting hit by lightening, after winning the powerball game just after your divorce became final.

ROCK ISLAND has some interesting offerings in the 1911 clones. Their compact 9MM look interesting. If I didn't already have my CCW stuff, I'd be looking at those real hard.

    BTW, I CCW a 1911 Colt Commander.

My "dream pistol" for CCW would be a Commander size pistol in .38 Super.

Hey Wullie! Good to see you still exist!
The problem is the definition of "concealed carry" Most of you guys have a very different version than mine.

I am a whopping 5'5 and a 150 odd pounds, so I have a lot less room on my person in which to conceal. Top that off with most of my business where I feel an additional need, takes place while I am wearing costumes which are often form fitting.
This means it has to fit in pocket, or in a small "pouch" I can have "Magnus Melior Amplius" but that would be for home, or ordinary life carry. Go get your dream gun Wullie.. its right here... Colt 1911 Combat Commander .38 Super Pistol NIB : Semi Auto Pistols at GunBroker.com

    Size doesn't matter.

I'm 5'8" at 175#. I carry mine in an OLD FAITHFUL inside the waistband rig.

Mine rides just behind my right hip and a loose fitting shirt, with the tail out hides the whole mess. I also wear a "wife beater" undershirt to keep something between my hide and the holster. I can tuck my shirt tail in with that rig and since I also carry a big GEC trapper in a little holster on the belt, it breaks up the outline very nicely.

I'd rather carry my Hi-Powr as it is a bit lighter, but the fat grips on that double stacked magazine make it just a bit more noticeable every now and then. I'll probably carry it more this winter when I'm wearing a jacket most of the time.

That Colt you linked to is NICE. TOO nice for my pocket book. Oh well.

I don't currently have a CCW, partially because I don't currently own any handguns, just several rifles and a Mosin Nagant is not concealable unless you have taken lessons from the Highlander who can somehow conceal a full size sword with no problem. Actually the Mosin is my largest rifle but still.

I want to get a 1911 eventually. Once I do that I would like to get my CCW, but I don't really feel like bothering with the license until I have the gun... Now to save the money for the handgun.
