I did forget to mention that beer is something like $9 at a game though....

I have been unable to go to a game this year though and check out all the new stuff on the banks.

As an "old-timer" I can tell you the egos were definitely there back in the day. Difference nowadays is the media coverage. Back then reporters genuinely feared/respected pro athletes because without them sports reporters would have nothing about which to write. Nobody (except Jim Button in his book "The Long Season") EVER published articles about Mantle and Ford and their heavy drinking/carousing (usually because the reporters were also "getting some" aka "sloppy seconds"). Also, many athletes were also combat veterans (WWII, Korea, Vietnam). "Don't anger a combat vet" was a safe way of behaving.
As far as salaries, Curt Flood and Bobby Hull literally broke the owners strangleholds on contracts. Think about it. When you watch a game, you are not there to intentionally observe the owner's performance. By your reasoning, where should all the money go?

Plus, for most games, the bleacher seats are only $7.

That may be true, but I haven't had my car broken into at a Reds game like I have at both Tigers games I've been to.
