I think it is a great idea.
I'm on my first razor designed on cardboard and got as far as ready for firing. I've also managed on minimal cheap tools and surprised myself how well it's turned out, I thought I would have f****d it up by now.
Profiling can be a slow process so anything precise and quick gets my vote, the design looks real cool.

    I would definitely be interested.
I also have a piece of damascus on the way, would you consider cutting that?
I'm still learning, but I would be willing to share my limited experience on this project...

And hey Baron, if you are interested don't be afraid because of lack of tools... I am pretty sure that between all of the ideas these SRP guys have we could come up with a reasonable way for you to do it up on the cheap.

Ronnie, you are in for sure, but the machine isn't in charlotte or I'd give you a tour no doubt.
    Dave!

Sorry , but I didn't see the previous post that the machine is at your fathers.
    Thanks!

Just for clarity, I'm game to try whatever you guys want to try, so if you want to try some 1080, 1095, 01, or other steels we can talk about that. So right now there are a few guys that are interested, so in order to get some legitimate ideas going why don't all of you who are really interested send me a PM, and tell me what kind of ideas you have, trying to stay relatively within reason (i.e. styles, drawings, materials, quantities etc.).

So far Mike_ratliff has sent a pm with some of those details, so everyone else who has interest please pm with your ideas.

Again, I am in this for the fun of it, so we can work together on a plan that will help us all have fun. If we need all of these to be the same design, so be it... if everyone wants to design their own, that could be ok too. The only thing I hope to get from this is sharing the experience, the ideas, and getting a blank or two for my troubles.

    Wow,

If I had means of heat treating and grinding this would be a dream come true.

The heat treat and grinding is not that hard, you just need to do some reading...
I'm doing heat treating with a $50 setup... and using a basic shop grinder...

This is just the type of situation that I think will bring the full capacity of SRP into action... I know that if there is a group of guys into this, someone is going to find a cost effective and unique way to pull this off...like Mike said earlier, I really believe in the ability of SRP members to invent alternative ways of doing things...read the "birth of a razor" posts and see what Bob does... nothing too high tech or expensive there. Look at Spazola's posts, he builds his own awesome and effective grinders. The more you look, you'll find that all of the guys here has some way of rigging something to work.

Also, the guys who know what they are doing are sure to see our feeble attempts and give useful info, I can't wait to see how it turns out as a learning experience for everyone.

By all means, if this interests you I think between everyone we can find solutions.

What an opportunity, I finally have a reason to use my Mastercam program I have on my home pc. I'm drawing up some designs right now and will attempt to post a few here. I wouldn't mind attempting to draw up some ideas for a few of you guys if you can pm with a basic drawing concept, some dimensions try to give angle degrees if you've got angles in there, fillet degrees if you've got rounded surfaces as well. The nice thing about Mastercam is I can draw nice accurate engineering files with it, then program the file for a CNC machine if I had one laying around(I've only done this for vertical and horizontal mills to date).
