Glad you made it. Take care of yourself. I know at least one member who has had multiple heart attacks and is an avid straight razor user. I'll make sure he sees this thread and I'm betting he'll contribute to it.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Great to hear you get another chance
Make the most of every day.
My old boy had a stent fitted over 20 years ago and is still going strong, he's 67 now,
so hopefully after some recovery time all will come back and sort itself out
You need to let yourself heal
You will certainly take more care not to cut yourself when shaving while on the meds

Don't recall the drive but I drove myself drive 6 miles or so and had cardiac arrest in the ER 3 minutes after arriving. Had 6 sets of paddles and Dopamine which infiltrated and caused massive scarring on my arm. Was medivaced out to another hospital and was on life support for around 8 days....finally they asked my daughter if she wanted the plug pulled. Luckily she said no, they put in a stent and it is now 17 years later....when I got out of ICU I could not walk or write my name, lost a lot of short term memory. But I got through it mostly. I would say from my experience that shaving is down near the bottom of the list of what is ahead. This is just my view but the main obstacle in any brush with mortality is depression. You will never be quite the same person. In my case, in some way, it was a good thing because I was a real bastard and the heart attack brought some humility where there was none before.
Take care and take it slow, you probably won't have any other options.
    Good luck
I went back when I could to thank the ER staff that was on that night (really small hospital in Delhi, NY) and the head Physician couldn't believe I made it.....said, 'I shouldn't tell you this but when you were being medivaced out I said to the nurse next to me he will either die or have brain damage.' I clearly didn't die but I'm still not sure about the brain damage.....I'd probably be the last to know.

hipsley, I had an open heart 3way bypass surgery. And have had many stents, femoral, illiac, etc. I take pradaxa 3 times a day and have no concerns at all straight shaving. Take it slow and pay attention to your recovery and you will know when you are ready to shave.
Welcome back from the heart attack. Your new stents will do their job and you are a smart man to have asked the question you did.

    Hello,

Well, I did not have the humdinger of a heart attack that WW243 did but I have had a few more than one.
    The lessons...
    1. Cool your jets for 90 days. Your body has to recover from the damage of the heart attack and adjust to the meds.
    2. The blood thinners are no big deal.
    3. The tremors and vision will most likely return to normal.
    4. It is not the end of the life. You will be back to close to normal. Most likely some things will take longer to do. Most things will be the same.
    5. Change your bad habits and pick up some good habits. You have had a bad bump in the road of life, learn from it, don't wallow in it, and move on.

Send me a PM or email anytime.

Good to hear you came out OK....my thoughts and best wishes are with you.

A friend of mine who went through something similar, his Dr. warned him about cuts, he pulled out an electric razor for a couple of weeks, really just as you said to wait till the shakes and the nerves settled down, then he went back.

All the best and take it easy, don't put any pressure on yourself, rest, relax and give yourself the time you need.

You are far from alone! Many of us have experienced similar.

To me the experience of straights includes so much more than the actual act of shaving. I don't know your experience but I would collect a few razors collect a few hones. explore that area. If you can hone a razor to shaving sharp I would trust it on my face as much as the hone. lather and a different brush can be cool and using a DE is not the end of the world.

Soryy to hear that but glad you made it. Don't give up on yourself or shaving with straights. Give it time. Or let your wife shave you with a straight!
