Thread: My Friodur has been Violated!

It does raise the question, that if it was in fact the cleaner, who knows what else he has been snooping around for?
(a closed drawer? No need to clean in there!)
I would not trust them any more.... And yes, get a locking box! I use one like this:
http://www.gerstnerusa.com/toolchests/41d.htm
(but a cheaper version), which has a 'key lock' in the middle clip to keep everything closed up.
I wonder....what was he shaving

Thanked: 9This is really bad! And I am not even talking about the dulled edge
I mean, even if the guy were a master barber and a stropping virtuoso - who cares, he should have your permission before touching / playing with them. Period
Now, I can understand human curiosity (I have lots of it myself) - but this doesn't mean that it's OK to do what he did. I must add, though, that anyone can slip - and if he's a good guy otherwise I might consider keeping him...
Please, update us when you get a chance
Cheers

Thanked: 4I would not consider messing with another man's razor and strop a "slip". The bugger not only violated your trust, but damaged your equipment. This is serious, and as others have said, who knows what else he's gotten into.

Thanked: 9Yes - I usually try to put myself in the other's shoes, which prompted my "be understanding" idea.
However, on second thought, you Wayne and the other guys are right - I hate to even begin to think what else he might be doing If someone ruined an edge I would probably fix it alright, but nicks in my nice strops will be very hard to get over emotionally
Cheers

Its the same as breaking something nice...and just throwing it away without telling you. Its a piece of your property. Unfortunately, thats the risk youll always run when someone is hired to clean your house. Unless you watch them like a hawk, there are always temptations.

Thanked: 1587The circumstances all point to him - we have no kids; my wife would *never* touch my razors (and she leaves and arrives with me each day); the Friodur was sharp Tuesday morning and blunt Wednesday; strop was nick free and now it isn't.
Had to pumice the strop, the nicks were too big to just leave - oh well, I guess I still have one side that is smooth.... Worked on the Friodur's edge last night - it's almost back to sharp.
But I don't care about that so much. Razors can be re-sharpened and strops can be pumiced (actually gives it a bit more draw). I don't even care if he shaved himself with it (or what part of his body he shaved ), except I'd like to know so I can disinfect the blade (actually, I think I'll do that anyway...). What gets me is the disregard for personal property - probably like most of the people here, my shaving gear is worth far more to me than just it's monetary value. There's a Murphy's Law aspect to this too - there's about 20 razors in that drawer, including several beat up Bengalls. But he had to go for the 300USD razor...
Anyway, I slept on it - and I'm still pissed. He's generally a good guy, and I guess it was curiosity...and God knows I've needed some second chances in my life...but...
I'm talking to him today and I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanked: 9Good man... I surely have gotten some nice chances in life. Not as great as these of many other people, I guess - but I still appreciate them
Looking forward to the update

Well, Good Grief!..I’m a little late to this party, but I pretty much agree with most of the other guys….unless you REALLY trust this guy in your house while you’re gone….I mean, who knows?...when he’s in there all alone, he could be rumaging through your underwear drawer, and prancing about the living room with your underwear on his head and using your socks for gloves and clunking around the house with his bare feet in your custom imported Italian calfskin loafers and getting all hot and sweaty while he was wearing that new Thai Silk shirt that your wife got you for your birthday….hell, he could even be taking off all of his clothes and rolling around in your bed between the sheets and doing who knows what all!!!! If he was REALLY twisted, he might even go into your kitchen and get into your silverware drawer and lick all the forks and spoons and get into the refrigerator and touch all of the ice cubes and drink out of the milk bottle.
I mean, really, there’s just no end to what a twisted, perverted mind can come up with!
Have a nice day!

Thanked: 1Take Lou for instance... which was obviously what he was going for in his post, but it still had to be said. The voices told me to do it!
Someone made the biggest point of all earlier though, 'closed drawer, what could need cleaning in there?'
I would have a very hard time not firin' the guy.

Totally fire him and retain the wages for sharpening it, maybe a new strop too. I'd be jumpin' mad.
