39 here...Started straight shaving after finding SRP. I enjoyed the thought of not being a slave to the local Walmart. I have everything I need to continue shaving for years to come and with the exception of RAD have NO NEED TO BUY ANYTHING ELSE FOR YEARS...

How nice to be on the threshold of a lifetime of shaving and able to enjoy so many different choices regarding every aspect of our "hobby." I wish you a lifetime of rewarding shaving experiences.

I'm 64, and "back in the day" we had many fewer choices. But, perhaps that was an advantage because it made things much simpler.

Thank you very much... I only wish I had more facial hair so I could enjoy this more like every one else does. Its something to look forward to.

I'm 23, and mired somewhere in my college career, lol. I started shaving with straights just a few weeks ago, and love it. I just got sick of paying out the for crappy throwaway carts. I got into straights at a barbershop I go to every now and then. They use straights to clean up the back of your neck there if there's time (maybe they offer full shaves. I haven't asked). So I started doing some digging around the internets about straights, found these forums, watched some YouTube vids, etc. and decided to give it a whirl. Now I'm trying to avoid Razor Acquisition Disorder. At some point I would like to get into learning to hone/restore razors as well.

25 here. Been using Straights and DE for about 3 years now. (I have a beard, so I've only got a dozen or so full-face shaves...usually just do cheeks, below jawline and back of neck.)

Like others I just plain like old things. Tools, guns, cars/trucks, furniture, houses, music, bows (longbows/recurves),...and wool lol!!!! I'd make furniture with only handtools for a living if a guy could make a living at it.

I also have some type of OCD about sharpening things. I love it. Knives, tools (chisels, planes, scrapers) razors...and now scissors. The high-end convex stylist shears. I'm actually making a go of doing that for as a side job. It's very cool to me...equipment is crazy expensive though, and it should be if someone's gonna trust with with a pair of $700 Hikaris or Mizutanis!!!!!

Add all that up and Wet-Shaving is just a natural fit!!

    Default Note to young bachelors!

    Cayne,

I'm sixty, started straight shaving in my early thirties for no other reason than I heard/read that women thought it was manly and sexy! I was between wives, dating and lived in a cabin in the woods. I never advertised that I shaved with a naked blade but, the strop hanging on the bathroom door, mug, brush and straight razor by the sink made it self evident.

A young lady visitor, with whom I had yet to be intimate, saw my kit and begged to watch me shave. She became physically aroused at the sight. The results were, well....you get the picture. Been a straight shaver ever since!

    An aside:

At the time (1982 or 83) there was no SRP or, B&B or, for that matter, internet. I went to my barber and asked what I needed and if he would teach me. My first kit came from from a barber/beauty supply wholesaler in my home town. It consisted of a Red Imp 133 razor, a Red Imp barber's strop, a barber's hone and stick of jeweler's rouge. That's it! Cost for the whole set-up was about 60 bucks. (I am still able to get a reasonably good shave with just that kit) The learning curve was much longer and painful than it needs to be now (thanks to the information and help found on this forum) and totally worth it.

Somehwere in the mid 40's, my daughter reminds me when my birthday is and how old I'm getting... My wife doesn't want to hear anything on the subject of birthdays...

I also got tired os the disposable lifestyle we all have seen explode into reality the last 20+ years. So I started removing as many dispoable items from everyday life, and find I have better equipment as well as experiences because of it. I found some razors on Ebite that I could afford and just started working out how to do things from my experience with high end kitchen knife sharpening. At about the same time I found SRP and that sped up the learning curve That was about 4 years ago, a month after I started shaving with a straight and I was hooked, gave away all my old shaving gear and never looked back.

My wife likes the side hobby of restoring as it doesn't take up much room My muzzleloading gear and tools ended up in storage at my folk ranch as I have ZERO room here for them

I'm 18 and just started shaving with a straight razor, although I've been shaving with a DE and a brush since I was 16. There's nothing quite like it
