I'll turn 25 in September and have been shaving with, restoring, and customizing straights for almost 2 years now. I have to thank my wife for giving me the nudge on X-mas a couple years ago with my first setup and I thank my brother(sbrouwers) for jumping into it with me. It's been an interesting and awesome trip so far and it's only getting better thanks to this great forum and it's members. Cheers all .

Thanked: 12I'm fourty-four, and only recently started straight-shaving.
Definitely wish I had discovered the pleasures of a truly clean shave thirty-odd years ago.

Thanked: 66I'm 30 and for me with very sensitive skin and coarse beard too..I suffered for years with redness and razorburn..I then used DE/SE for 2 years but still got razor marks everytime..then my wife's grandfather told me he used his 5/8 size straight razor for more than 50yrs!!...I was amazed so..my first razor was a Sheffield 7/8 razor..heck of a learning curve...but no mire razor burn and now also own my wifes grandfathers razor as he no longer uses it and also have a 6/8 WonderEdge as a gift...good luck on your adventures here...
thnx SRP!!

55 years old, but if I met myself at 30 I could take me.
Started with a straight back when all I had was peach-fuzz. My dad stropped it and I just dipped his lather. Then we switched to DE razors and then I went on to disposables.
Got tired of the throw-away culture. Throw away the can. Throw away the blade NO, throw away the whole razor! And still have a bad shave and bumps.
I was pondering straights for a long time when I encountered some students at my school who were discovering "wet shaving" and I did my first straight shave since maybe 1968 or so in April 2010.
No bumps! Cuts yes, but no bumps. Scars you know, they give your face character!

I turned 50 in April. I've been wet shaving since I was in college, but only started using straights near the end of May--until then, I didn't know anybody still made or used them. Wish I'd known about this 30 years ago!

Thanked: 9STR8S
Just think how nice we would all look if everyone used a straight razor. Just think how mellow we would all be after completing our morning routine. Just think about all the plastic from disposables that wind up in landfills. Just think about all the badger breeders that would be needed. just think about the skyrocketing prices of straight razors....OMG! never mind, forget it! leave the straight shaving to the lucky few willing to experience the finer things in life. Remember RAD! for every straight shaver initiated, dozens of razors disappear off the market. Oh dear, what have we done?
