Cayne,
I'm fifty (50).
I shaved with a straight in the early 1990s, and had to give it up when my honemeister (an old barber) died; I couldn't find anyone that would hone straights, and in that pre-internet era there was no information easily to be had (no SRP !!) on hones or honing.
I took it up again in 2008
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 227I'm 26..
I moved over to straight shaving because I was having a hellish time with ingrown hairs on my neck, on a hunt to find out why I came across a few blogs that said a lot of folk have this issue with a multi blade cartridge, so I moved to a DE, and this made me realise just how much I was spending on disposeable blades for the gillette, then I decided to try to find other DE blades as the cheap ones I was using were harsh, then I stumbled onto a youtube vid of a guy using a straight, and it dawned on me that a straight meant a one time buy and no waste.... So I got one, I downloaded all the info I could find at the time and got learning, it was a harsh road to say the least, then I stumbled upon here my shaving technique has rocketed, and my bank balance has plumeted but like say, there's no waste, I can always sell the razors on or donate them to worthy causes

funny thing.. i took interest in straight razors when i was 22.. i walked into larry's shaver shop in santa monica and planned on picking up a razor and that was it.. but when i saw the pricetag i walked right back out and figured i'd be better off just paying the price of mach3 cartridges.. i completely forgot about straight razors for 7 years and then this january i became fascinated with them.. i picked up an artist club and will never look back.
i think that things come to people when they are ready for them.. i simply wasn't ready at the age of 22.. however.. did anyone notice there is a 15 year old straight user that just signed up here?

Thanked: 68Just turned 39. Been straight for about 6 months now and loving it.
Remember seeing my grandads straights in the bathroom when I was young and have always had a fascination with things that are sharp. Changed from a beard to a goatee about 9 months ago and was once again being bothered by ingrown hairs, annoyed at the price of throw away multi blades and it was a bit tricky getting the straight lines I wanted.
Managed to track down one of grandads old razors and get it honed up. Found SRP and a wealth of information - Thanks to Lynn and the rest of the community.
Like so many others am now hooked and actually enjoy shaving. Shave daily now for work, even though I could probably manage every second day - why wait?! I even find myself shaving on my days off just because I can.Don't do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics!

Thanked: 983I'm 39.5. I got my first cut-throat razor in my 20's (a Dovo #98) and had a helluva time trying to shave with it. After many off and on attempts over the years I finally got myself sorted and have been a daily straight man for two months now. I've also added a second C-T to the collection (a G&F Timor #150) so that I can rotate them. I prefer the Dovo at 6/8 over the Timor at 5/8. For me it is...Well, I don't really know. Nostalgia isn't the right word, and indeed it would take more than one word to cover all the reasons I use a proper razor. Certainly the cool factor as many others have stated. But that is minor. I just can't explain it.

Just turned 33... Thanks for making me feel old all you dang whipersnappers. Now, Off my dang lawn before I turn the sprinkers on.
I'd be willing to guess that the medium of this forum (Interwebs) will tend to skew the membership younger(ish) as some of our elders aren't comfortable with computers / internet usage to the point where they might join up here and share their experience.

I'm the last leg of my 27th year. Just started straights and I am having a great time making my lady friend sweat while I'm shaving in the back bathroom.
The funny thing is I remember owning a straight razor that I believe I found at my grandpa's house and kept it on my person at all times. I think it was my first knife and used it to cut twigs and other useless things kids with knives cut. Looking back I wonder who's razor that was and what brand. Never know I guess.

Thanked: 84I just turned 19 about a week ago as well.
Kinda shocked at how many younger people there are already, haha.
I got into using a straight because I got sick of looking like a had a acne beard from shaving.
that and I hated having to replace the cartridges after every other shave because my beard was so thick.
So partly because of Sweeney Todd, I tired a straight razor, and fell in love.
I do wish I would have found this site sooner, I had been straight razor shaving for a few months before I ran across SRP.
