Default 5th Annual Mile High Madness- Denver Colorado

Ahh, good reminders. I remember Glen's description of his stripping grip and have found if I can maintain that and keep my wrist pretty calm, i.e. not much twist, so the flip is mostly in the fingers, it works better.

Thanks again all, because there really is a lot I learned in a few hours face to face.

With me. I had got into the habit of rolling my wrist over for the stroke back towards my body. I had been getting good results with this, but after Glen got me to twirl the shank with my fingers I noticed that I had much better control of the pressure on the edge, also the twirl feels more ergonomic and easier on the wrist.

My biggest take away at this meet was also with the stropping, I thought what we learned about have a person holding the strop ring while the other person was stropping and then reversing roles really helped demonstrate the actual pressure involved.. I had done that same thing at the other meets but it never occurred to me to use it as a teaching tool until last Sunday

Remember about watching the Forefinger top knuckle while stropping and to keep that rolling movement to a minimum, less movement there means less wrist rolling..

Start high remember that routine I did with DryFly's razors where I dropped 2 levels and used a light slurry for the refresh, stay on the lower of the 2 hones for a touch longer and see if the chips melt away easily...

Funny timing, I am honing a plethora of Heljie's right now and one hand micro chipping along the edge after the first attempt at the bevel set finally got a clean edge after the second run through

Went to the 8k first few strokes for the smile of the blade(thus also creating the hone smile) using two fingers hold down then, few single handed strokes followed by the hair pop then the strop 20 cloth 40 leather. Got a nice comfy almost complete bbs shave. Chips had disappeared. Thx yet again Glen.

Dood ! I'm giddy as heck. I finally feel like I can do some successful honing and stropping. I did another shave tonight equally as good. We'll see what happens when I set down with my Dovo Special and do the same routines. Cross yer fingers.

Okay you guys...gotta Give Glen more praise. So I was happy as ever to have improved both my honing and stropping and I was even happier when the proof was shown after Glen had me hone my best quality half hollow 5/8 Dovo. at the meet. But I was still a slight bit wary until I just got done honing stropping and shaving with my Dovo Special 5/8 without Glen being there for help. I'm tellin the truth guys. Ever since that meet-up I have been getting bbs shaves and tonight was a pure joy. Both my blades were pulling bad before but, not now. I've been getting a lot better at my pressure on the hones and strop,...better at the smiling stroke(an epiphany unto itself),better on my blade flip...better,better,better on everything,... period. The hair ,thumb nail and thumb test works great ....I love my blades again !! So appreciative Glen. Thanks for the nth time yet again ! Oh and I almost forgot to mention. Part of the proof was not only the lack of pulling and easier strokes but, the spot just under my lower lip that I can never seem to get smooth.......problem gone and very comfortable ! Bliss !! GO TO YOUR MEET-UPS !
