Another chalk-up for the meet-up......Like I said before...I've been here approx. 3 and something years now and for the last 2 I had been DE shaving mostly. Love my DE by the way. Point is I like Marsh feel like I'm cracking the code finally . What I couldn't grasp in such a way for honing and especially stropping (thank you a thousand times Glen) I finally am getting. My blade flipping has gotten better too....so therefore....my shaves on the Straight are picking up again and getting more pleasant. This is why a Meet-up is a good thing .

The stropping technique I learned at this meet greatly increased my control of stropping pressure.

    Thanks Glen

Having Charlie Lewis show up and being able to show him my homemade forged razors was icing on the cake.

My shaving collection. The straight razors and Bison strop are new additions. Brush and double edge on stand are modern. Gold DE is a vintage Gillette adjustable. 1st straight I'm not sure of make or age, it was a gift fry daughter the barber. 2nd is a vintage Genco, then a vintage Crescent Razor Co & then a Tondeo replaceable SR.Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1406494642.384541.jpg

Makes me wonder what razors were considered the best of their day among the old timers y'know. To us most razors are good finds as a matter of history. But what did the average fella of the day consider bad and good ? P.S. Shave Number three since the meet and my stropping is soooo much better, Damn what a difference ! Thanks Glen

So, remind me about what changes you made to your stripping technique. I didn't Have an opportunity to practice at the meet up. I just got my strop yesterday, so I had a few days to practice on the newspaper strop, which cut and shredded if the technique was off. I only hacked it up twice in 3 or 4 days, 40-60 laps a day. Now with the leather, which is narrower I'm sort of relearning. So any help is appreciated.

Okay well instead of a PM I'll tell all the best I can here. I mean it's workin fer me so bear with me .....My first and most important epiphany was when Glen pointed out that I wasn't applying enough pressure to the strop and in my mind it's definitely more than I envisioned.Best ways I can describe it is slightly more than light if that makes sense. The second was when he showed me how to grip the razor. thumb and forefinger opposite corners on the diagonal(not on the flat) thus creating crease marks on both and holding or wrapping my pinky finger over and around the scales and holding my elbow up and more level. All this helped to keep my blade flatter on the strop as I was very uneven. I sure hope this makes sense ? And to Glen...hope i didn't butcher that explanation too badly?? I definitely noticed that the better stropping is working. I still get pulling but less and my blade does feel sharper. Best I can do but, then again this is why meet-ups are good cause ain't nuffin like bein there.
