Yup . . . just put out a date and time, and people will make their own decision on attendance. Same goes for winter driving. I'll be heading up through Orangeville this weekend on my way to Mt. Forest. Not exactly going to be the Donner Party, but others feel differently about driving in the snow, and that is fine, too.
I just want to meet some folks who share this hobby with me.

Would be great to see everyone, but as mentioned, all depends on the weather, more than two hours in the car makes me cranky.....I agree with Orville, let's just put out a date and time and leave it there until a couple of days before hand.

Thanked: 4206'Duplicate post'
Seems the consensus is to wait for the spring thaw before we organize a proper GTG.
That being said, I will be puttering around the house this weekend if anyone feels like having a smaller gathering of the stones.
Andrew and I have talked lathe and brush making GTG and I would like to put something on the calendar for that activity. If April 19th works I would suggest we firm it up.
Forecasting ahead, I would be happy to host a summer GTG once again in Orangeville and would like to put it to the date of Sunday June 14. Lets get some dialogue going around those dates gents. And if others want to host, or suggest alternates, as always, totally down with that too.

Thanked: 2284April 19th works for me Mike. If some new guys show, they have a good chance of walking away with a free brush.

I could likely do the 19th, as well. As for new brushes, I can bring the stick mentioned previous and, if it is usable, then attendees can have a souvenier handle at the very least. Darn thing is almost 5 feet long. A reminder . . .

Out of curiosity, what would a good length to cut the billets? 60 mm? Do we want some short and some longer?
I can precut before the event to make things faster

Thanked: 4206April 19th it is then.
Have room for three wood turners on the go simultaneously and I can set up a table for some honing work for those that just want to sharpen razors.
As for pre cutting the cane stock, I'd suggest 6" sections as they can become brushes, scales, or pens from that size.
Going to grab some extra knots from lee valley, 19mm base. Good size knots for a smaller brush.
In a few hours we can have some brushes turned and maybe even the finish started.

I will be there for sure. Might even bring my recent purchase so someone can get me started on the road to honing (or I can just slip them a couple 20s to do it for me. LOL).
Love the idea of alternate uses for the wood. Will cut to size (had not thought of scales, I could use those, too).
I even have a 45x loupe now for looking more closely at edges.
Please PM address as the date nears, and I look forward to seeing as many fellow enthusiasts as possible.
Anthony
P.S. In case I had not said so earlier, thanks for getting this rolling, Mike.Last edited by Orville; 04-06-2015 at 04:40 PM.
