Thanks to Randy and Rodb for the setting up and to Seth for the venue! I had a very pleasant time and met in person some of the folks that I had heard of. The meal was great for those that could enjoy it and I enjoyed watching them chow down.
Randy and Ron ( Utopian) held forth on honing and a couple news guys learned a better way to do it. I watched both because I can always learn or remember something in the watching.

Just finished up the day an hour ago. We had a very good time meeting old friends and making new ones in a very cool place. I will write and upload more tomorrow.
Here are a few of the pics.......

These gatherings are a scream, but are especially good when you're trying to get through your learning curve. I can sound like a broken record (CD?) on the topic, but you will likely learn more in a day than you can on obsessing on forum threads, practicing, etc. If you get a chance to hook up w/ the honorable Randydance, you'll thank yourself. The short version is that he's extremely knowledgeable and generally wonderful. You'll be glad you went.

This was my 20th meet-up.

They always go too fast. I always feel like I didn't do enough or didn't get to spend enough time getting to know new people.

Other things remain constant.

--Randy is the calm guy that always takes the new guys under wing and gives them the best possible foundation for become competent honers capable of maintaining their razors. He is also the guy that is behind that setting up and organizing of a lot of these gatherings.

--Too much time is spent focusing on honing. It's what beginners struggle with but they also need to be helped with stropping, making lather, and oh, I don't know, maybe shaving. I'm going to try to change that at future meet-ups.

--It's hard to keep track of names. As an online community, we usually communicate with the written word. When we have the opportunity to come together in person, it really would help to have name-tags. I'm going to invest in some of those!

--They are not well enough attended by beginners! Seeing this stuff in person makes everything a lot easier. Seriously, if you are a beginner and have a chance to go to a meet-up, you should do it.

Well, I could continue the list but I should wrap this up. I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to Frank's meat fund. Since he was not a member, I appreciate that he was able to get some reimbursement for both the cost of the meat, the other stuff he bought, and his drive up from Rochester. I was pleased that he used most of the money out of the can to buy a brush from Skipnord! In addition, because Randy gave him a beautiful pristine Gillete safety razor to upgrade from the ugly one I had loaned him, he is well on his way to a full conversion to better wet-shaving.

Finally, thank you to Seth Reid for serving as host at the distillery.

I'm sorry I couldn't attend (couldn't get the day off) and it sounds like a wonderful time. As a beginner I haven't started shaving with a straight yet (I wet-shave with DE's and Schicks) and a meet-up or one on one probably is the best direction when I'm ready to start. So it's too bad I missed it. At the moment I'm still hesitant slightly due to costs and the process of learning a new process. I take it day by day though
