Gosh. That bottle has been gone for 72 hours and i do not miss that scent. The deer and birds have returned to the 'hood.

I have been playing with an Autostrop using feather blades that I got from Geezer.

Fun but I've gotten a couple of more dings than from the square point straight.

Good experience but it won't make its way into my rotation!

Tried the Dragons Tongue hone today and it was what Geezer said it would be!

I used it between the 4 and 8k Norton. Finer than the 4k and the 8k improved it. He said 6-7k and I would say about 6. JMHO YMMV

Also used some Music City Whiskers soap. It worked but I still would use my Cella if I had a choice

Did anyone notice the differences from last April's meet-up?

This time was almost all about honing and razor maintenance while last April was almost all about using the new Bader Grinder.

This time was more about easy comradery and fat chewing than last.

And yet; a tremendous amount of information was shared, chewed upon, and accepted or rejected by each person as they decided according to their own methods.

Yes I did notice a difference. At any type of learning you should bring your own questions and you can lead the process rather than a canned ideal.

I have been asked why I would spend a couple of days in someones garage to talk about straights etc.

My thought is that it isn't much difference than a fish house or a hunting camp. Guys with similar interests hang out and enjoy something different than their "normal" life.

Bonnie noted that there wasn't a TV in the garage and we didn't invade the house to watch the World Series......

Again my random thoughts and I hope that they make sense.

Randy and I discussed this. Nearly half the people there were mentors. Hence, the questions were typically about the finer points in this hobby. Still, we all learned something. Some comments were made about feeling a bit out of place considering the knowledge base of the attendees. This is wrong and needs to be addressed in the announcement of the meet.

The next meet should be more geared to new people. The teaching of honing will always be a priority but there are so many other aspects that need to be discussed. Simply making a good lather is worth demonstrating.

Be thinking of ways to draw less experienced people to these meets. The hobby will grow if we make the effort to teach the basics in an environment that does not intimidate the newbs.
