I invited a couple of friends to your meet Dave. I got them both started with safety razors a couple years ago and thought they may like to make the leap. I think next go round I’ll skip the heavy razor aspect and just ask if they’ll join me for a day of hanging out like we would for a gun show. It’ll bring in new questions at the very least.
If I can’t sell them on just hanging out, I can certainly sell them on having a couple beers."The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas." -Linus Pauling

Dave, you are so very correct. Some of the top dogs of the straight razor shaving world were at your meet. It was a true pleasure to sit and share all the knowledge, experience, camraderie and friendship, but, nothing would have made me happier than sitting and teaching for the whole time.
I truly believe that we all have a responsibility to pass on the lost and dying art of straight razor shaving, and to do what we can to keep the flame lit.

When I was starting out a couple of years ago, I had the good fortune to attend a couple of meets in Denver where there were a lot of newbies. I learned so much, then, about the basics of honing and razor care. I think without that, I might have given up. Thanks for recognizing this.

I think this hobby, and all the aspects of it, in my opinion is an always learning hobby. That’s what I enjoy most about it. There is always something to be learned and knowledge to share no matter how new or seasoned one may be. It’s great to see so many knowledgeable Wet Shavers when we attend meetups. I do agree we can do more to share in other aspects of the Shave, like how paramount prep is.
Today I honed up one of my favorite Clauss razors using the hone on loan from Randy and also the smaller Escher on wood that I got for my donation to Movember and was brought to us by the kind and generous Richard, thanks brothers. I did use some synthetics, but my Shave results were off the charts. Very happy. I did take longer with prep also. Enjoy the whole process and shaves will just get better and easier as time passes.
I hope when people attend they are not afraid to ask any questions of any of us. I will demonstrate or do my best to help as many as possible. I know many times with meetups the intentions are to do so many things, but normally ends up being honing and more honing. It is super important and there is so much to learn.Last edited by Gonzo4str8rzrs; 11-05-2017 at 07:59 PM.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

Movember is now here!!
Movember is now here!!
Remember guys; some of you hauled a lot of goodies from the meet with the promise that you would donate to Movember the price you would have had to pay in an antique store.
A few labeled Escher's went out that door and a lot of Thuri's and quite a few other hones. So did a lot of bare blades in fair to good condition.
Just a reminder!
