I have a couple of engraving blocks that can ride with me to Texas.

32T, it is up to you to remind me before I leave here on Jan 11 ( yes, January ).
A call or a text would work best.

Diboll, The talent and expertise in all things straight razor shaving related that the people attending the Texas meet have is second to none and virtually off the charts. I don't think you'll ever find this kind of learning opportunity anywhere but there, once a year. Dave's meetup in Wisconsin is very close, but being that you already live in Texas, this shouldn't be missed.

There is absolutely nothing about a razor that cannot be explained in absolute detail and shown. Most of us started restoring and decided to learn "everything " razor.

Give us the details of your arrival time please.

Haven’t booked a flight yet or a room. Initially looking at Twilite last night it may be booked, I need to call them tomorrow.

As far as the flight is concerned I was thinking I’d try and get an early morning flight so I can get to Charlie’s in the morning of the 20th. Need to do that as well tomorrow. If a specific time for a flight makes sense to someone also flying in who wants to split a rental I can try and get there at the same time or a little earlier to make things easier.

That’s true Scott. All this restoring and RAD and HAD and my recent strop and brush stuff all started because I wanted to learn to hone my own razors.

If you have something to demonstrate others will watch.

The couple of times that I have attended it wasn't scripted and I have ended coming away with a couple of lessons that I hadn't thought of before I arrived.

And putting faces and voices to what I read on the internet is priceless!

Let's put it like this: it's a meeting with an active workshop, more akin to a playground. There are razor makers there, running around, doing various things that may or may not be related to razors.

Last year there were people making damascus, Making razors, Making scales, showing heat treatment, making kitchen knives, etc.
I made a billet of meteorite damascus and some other damascus and a couple of razor blanks. Jaime (who goes by the name 'tarka' these days) made a kitchen knife. Pete made a razor, TC made a razor, Bonnie (Dave's wife) made a metal rose under the instruction of the local blacksmith, etc.

There were also some visitors and bystanders, and as Tim said: the meet is generally what people want it to be for themselves. If you are into scales and restoration, you will definitely be able to do stuff and participate. And if you are interested in giving it a try, there is a high likelihood you will walk away with a razor that you made yourself. Several people have done it in the past year. Both Pete and TC made their first razor without previous experience.

If it were financially possible I would attend like I did the previous years but it is what it is and I am going to have to skip this year. Already looking forward to the one after it, and planning to sell enough stuff that I can afford it.
