Thanked: 4826That sounds like a great plan Scott. I would be interested in seeing that done. Knives from pattern welded cable have a great pattern, and with it being sanmai the unisteel core would give you the perfect edge. Picking steel for the core that will play nicely with the cable during heat treat I think is going to be the trick. When you buy cable can you find out what type of steel the cable is made from?

I have some cable from the scrap yard, From memory I would say it is 1.25-1.5 diameter

So would this competition be starting with the same materials or would everyone have their choice and you are just "leaking" your plan to kick everyone's @ss?

Thanked: 1936Not a competition, just accomplishing clean billet out of the cable would be a win in my books! THEN accomplishing a clean weld on the 1095 or O1 would be a even better!
