Thanked: 40Hotel
Is the Baymont the place to reserve, if so do we need to reference anything when booking, or are we still looking for a group discount somewhere else?
Thanks and looking forward to meeting everyone.

Thanked: 416I have not had enough people asking for rooms to warrant a discount. Most that have contacted me so far are staying with friends or families. If you guys want me to check and see if we can save a little I need a head count of people needing a room.

Seeing this thread pop up reminded me to post.
Unfortunately, I will have to back out. I will be taking some leave and getting ready for a deployment. My orders showed up confirming I will be heading to Iraq for a year, starting in July.
Best reguards to all; hoist a few for me!

Thanks Doc!
I do have one request....
I am looking for somthing for this deployment. I have seen travel "boxes" (like the one here) but I am trying to find something that would hold a couple of razors, a brush and maybe a shave stick (like the ones Mama Bear sells).
The TI one looks to be too small and honestly I would think it would need to be a little more rugged to survive in the desert.
I asked Rob (sicboater) to pose the question at the gathering, but I figured I could get folks thinking about it in advance. It looks like a lot of talented folks will be in Asheville so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I would like to take a reminder of civilization with me (i.e. a good blade or two). I was thinking of fabricating something myself, but I hate to try to re-invent the wheel here....
If nothing else, if anyone has actually tried the TI travel box and could comment, it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanked: 79I used to have the TI box, and unless you are going to be in good quarters (e.g. not in a tent sleeping in a regulation cot, w all you "own" stuffed underneath...) I would not recommend it. It is also small. The razor and perhaps another one or two would fit, but not a shave stick or anything like that.
Mine was a bit delicate and couldn't even handle routine banging around that happens inside a helicopter. The delicate hinge pin broke first... If you are going to have a locker, or are staying in the "green zone", or one of the bigger bases (never mind where you will be *operating* at) you might be ok. Otherwise, I've had luck with simple stuff like rubber bands and ziploc freezer bags. If you can get one, a grenade can is just about the right size for a brush, a few razors and a shave stick...
Otherwise, I'm sortof eyeballing an otter box for my next trip over.
Good luck over there.
