Thanked: 40Weekend
Thanks to everyone who had a part in this weekend. I had a blast learning how to hone with Lynn and Glen helping me out. After I had the blade ready I got a quick touch up shave in. Great!!! Thank you both.
Glen, great uber lather demo. I know everyone enjoyed shaving off of it. Also lapping up BT's norton's was great to watch. I will have mine ready by the end of today for some more touch ups!
Tim, thanks for brings ALL those razors. Amazing collection!
Doc, great BBQ as mentioned. Look forward to heading up the mountain again for it!
Martha, thank you for all the great work you did!
Thank you to all the vendors who provided samples/products. I can't wait to start on my new stash of soaps.
FYI to any newbies, if there is a gathering you can get to, GO TO IT!!! The weath of knowledge and experience is well worth any plane ticket/gas, let alone the great time and friendships.
Thanks again guys!

hoglahoo's incomplete and meandering treatise on the value of a straight razor meetup
What a great experience!
Are there photos being posted elsewhere? [Edit: Yes there are - they are here] I know sicboater took an awesome shot of oldblades' several-hundred razor display. By the way, I counted 23 heads who showed up for the events. I was awestruck by dozens of spectacular razors, and even though I was disappointed that everyone who wanted to come couldn't, I was happy that several guys arranged to have their razors shown and/or given away. Everyone was very pleasant, generous, and helpful. But then I didn't attend the late-night meetings at the houses of alcohol worship either, so I can't speak for what did or didn't take place there
Special thanks to Lynn and Glen who put edges back on two of my razors and explained to me how to take them to shaving sharp. And a load of gratitude to Doc and "Bandit" for putting this whole thing on. They make a great bbq - I'm glad Simon cleared up for me this morning in his post the mystery of the fogging windows last night in the car. That potato salad was delicious! And thanks to Doc and "Bandit" again for all their help directing me around town and making their selves available everytime I called them from the hotel for help with this or that.
Chris, I love your story, and am so glad at the success I heard you had with your shave at the church. That was a really nice-looking brush too (I wonder whose it was?) At first glance, I thought it was a stuffed animal sitting on the counter. If anyone is at their wit's end trying to get a good straight razor shave, attend a meetup!
One more thanks to all the people who donated loot to give away. There was a LOT of GREAT stuff. And one more thank you to Simon who held my baby so I could play with Lynn's giant razors.
I feel very sedated right now - I've discovered that 3 hours of really deep sleep can be just as restful as a usual 8 or 9 hours. That's neither here nor there, but since you've read this far I figure I could slip in that little bit of trivia. The grass in my yard is also about 4 inches higher than when we left Thursday; lots of rain.Last edited by hoglahoo; 06-09-2008 at 04:08 PM. Reason: found the photos

Thanked: 105great time
The 26 hours of driving was worth every minute.
Thanks to everyone there. Old dogs can learn new tricks, thank you Lynn.
Doc and Bandit , just saying thank you is not enough, my door is always open if ever you get up this way. Thanks Doc for the offer to store a few razors to reduce the weight to save gas, they made it home okay. LOL
Thank you to all the vendors and individuals that gave to make this such a great weekend!

Perhaps the coolest thing to me is that now I can put faces, names, and voices to the posts in this thread! I really am glad to have met all of you. Many thanks again to Doc and Bandit who did so much work to pull everything together and made us all feel at home. If any of you are ever coming to Atlanta for anything, there is space by my fire for you!
Can't wait to do it again next year!!!!
