I'd never have believed how great it was to meet a lot of these guys. I now count Rob, Dave (and his wife...seriously, I haven't met anyone more hilarious in a long time...that goes for Rob, too. If you missed the bicycle panhandler story, your life is a bit less wonderful ), Doc, Martha, Charlie, Tim, Ronnie, Bill, Glen, and Lee among my friends. It was a great time. I'm not the most outgoing and immediately approachable guy in the world, being somewhat 'shy' (at least until the Old Speckled Hen kicks in), but they made me feel welcome. It was great to be there, and North Carolina is just GORGEOUS (except for all the damn hippies...Hippies **** me off...) That was the most fun I've had in years. Maybe if I can come again, I'll try and contribute something. There really aren't enough good enough things to say about it...and I finally got to meet some people who've been friends for years. I got a lot of really great ideas, and met some of the people I believe will be leading the custom razor business in a while. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and drank a lot . I hope to do it again next year!

We hope you do it again next year too Joe! Can't wait to see what inspiration you took away from the gathering to turn into wicked steel!

Some thoughts of RazorCon 09 "The Gathering"

Wow we topped last year and I didn't know if that was possible...

Doc and his wife Martha are the greatest period, bar none, and without them this would never have happened....
Don't even get me started on how good the BBQ was, I am glad Simon was there and most of the pics were of him, because I very quietly made a complete pig of myself

It was great meeting up with friends from last year, and making even more new ones.... Finally meeting a few people that I have been chatting with for so long like Don, Joe, Randy, Charlie, Bill W. and Bill S. was fantastic... Meeting many of the new guys to the forum that made it this year was way cool, hope they had a good time too.....

I am still trying to figure out how many razors Lynn and I honed, he really is "Da Machine"...

The guys that made the webcast happen "D", Rob, Lee, Chris hope I didn't forget anyone, guys that was really great, that was simply above and beyond holding those cameras, and working the computer... That is something that will be priceless info when it is all said and done....

A huge thank you to the vendors that graciously donated gifts for the meet... I know the big gifts were what everyone wanted to win, but those little giveaways are what I use when starting somebody new off to a straight razor and are much appeciated.....

    I can't wait for 2010....

I know there were several comments made in chat comparing your arm hair to your facial hair. If you ran out of hair on your arms and had to start testing edges on your legs, then I'd say you honed a **** ton of razors!

    Hello all,

Razorcon was a success! thanks in large part to Doc, Martha, Dave, Rob, Lee and all the others! Those of us who drove/flew in are all very appreciative of your efforts. Thanks a bunch!

It has been said before and I agree, it was great to finally meet all of you.
The SRP now has more real people that I can relate to and makes it even more enjoyable for me.

Next year is already on my mind. I know of several things that I will do differently. Chief among them is to make some razor rolls like Oldblades has to display my razors and I will not be bringing so many hones! Those were heavy to handle. I think I will reserve about 4 tables for display purposes, That will give me enough room for a bunch of razors and hones.

On the way home I did stop at the antique store and looked at the razore collection I mentioned to a few guys. It consisted of 31 razors which was a bummer. I expected more. Of the 31 razors, 27 were junk. I bought the 4 good ones plus 2 razor strops and a razor with a bad blade but some outstanding stripped butterscotch scales.

I really enjoyed looking at all the razors and hones but the best part was meeting all you guys. That made the trip very worthwhile for me.

I hope to see you all next year!

    Howdy,

What a great event this was again this year. Doc and Martha did another superb job in hosting the gathering and a wonderful time was had by all. David et all, the webcast was awesome. Rob, the pictures were killer. It was such a treat to get to see all our friends from last year, meet some new friends and finally get to shake hands with some long time friends, eh Randy. Charlie, your razors are unbelievable. I think Glen needs a Charnely Forest. Tim, you owe your wife big time for driving you. By the way, I need to do an inventory on your razor collection........ Bill, I really appreciate getting to use the Asagi. Doc says he's gonna save that part of my ear I cut off and give it back to me next year. Man, that Wootz razor is sharp......... Jim, good luck with the straight razor shaving and keep us posted on how you and your dad are doing. And once again, Glen left the gathering with no hair on his forearm........ That collection is really growing Ronnie. Don, thanks for driving too..........were you working in that pic...........

Thanks to all who attended and contributed and I can't wait till next year. And a special thank you for putting up with this gimpy ol' guy.......

I really love these gatherings and getting to meet so many great people. SRP members rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who wanted to see the Wilkinsons....................

    Here are some more Pics.
