Thanked: 74Sounds like most of the interest for this gathering comes from the east. Therefore, I propose the gathering be held in Ames.

A friend of mine moved to Ames recently, and I converted him to straight razors some time ago.
I will shoot him a message and see if he wants to be a part of this... If he's in, I am in as well.
I will update as I find out stuff.

Are there really people living in Iowa? Why?
Ron, lets tag team Sham with PM;s maybe you can add two more to your list.It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 3795That would be awesome! But if this keeps growing, it certainly can't be held in my little house. It might be better if the Iowegians all rented a bus to go to BJ's place in MO!
Oh, and I have no idea why anybody lives in Iowa, except that it's a lot warmer than Minnesota in the winter. I've been here 19 years but it doesn't look like I'm going to make it to 20.

Thanked: 741. I may or may not live in Ames. I was only thinking of everyone else when I made my proposal, though. Ames is pretty much better than Iowa City. It has a better city layout, fewer bums, and no annoying Hawkeye fans (huge plus right there).
2. I would love to host, but I think my small apartment is a little too cozy for comfort. This would be completely be feasible though (joking ):

3. George Foreman Super Champ Limited Edition
4. I am interested, but I am not sure if I would be able to attend. I don't have a car, and I am really busy trying to finish my thesis and find a job. I am a newb that would benefit a lot from this gathering though. Count me as a maybe.Last edited by altshaver; 09-15-2010 at 02:49 AM. Reason: Typo

Thanked: 995Definitely later in October please. I'm supposed to be running a smelter the first weekend.
There are a lot of very decent cool people living in Iowa. They occasionally enjoy a white winter, versus the depressing gray ice of Kansas, where the country is so flat that it makes your head hurt...
Iowan's accent is normal compared to the rest of the country. They generally are quiet about their intellectual capacities and rank highest in academic achievement when they allow themselves to be noticed.
Driving to Iowa is all the same to me. I went to school in Ames as well, or Dead Moines. Although I have to say that town improved quite a bit after I moved out. Sadly that is true of most places I've lived. Dunno why.
Coming to another place forces me to travel light. But, I have no problem hosting another go at my shop. Then I'm surrounded by all my toys and have a much easier time splaining things. Let's leave this hint here and see if any of the other Minnesotans have had enough coffee to notice. We can talk about my end of the craft in Iowa, and then have the second day at my place to put a feeling into it. If it's close enough to the middle of Iowa I might be able to talk my buddy Howard into showing up.
How about Newton? Good interstate (sorta) access.“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power.” R.G.Ingersoll

Thanked: 4942I would be in for a visit as well, depending on how the new hip will be doing after the surgery.
Have fun,
Lynn
