Bruce, see PM. I don't want to change the course of this thread too far.

Originally I was envisioning this as a pathetic little gathering of us wretched refuse here in Iowa. THAT would fit in my house. If many people are interested in actually coming, we'll definitely have to come up with another venue.

Did anyone from Volchonok's initial post receive my SECOND PM? I sent it to Volchonok, BKratchmer, LouG, NoseWarmer, and Herbie5075 and haven't heard back from them.
Yes, got your second PM Ron! I'd love to come and first part of Nov. sounds good to me, but could make end Oct as well. I'm sure I'll be needing some recovery myself if steak and pork chops are the cure!
Iowa City seems like a fairly central location and would work for me.
Please keep me in the loop (even though I live in Illinois - I'm only 5 miles from Iowa - hope that's good enough) Thanks,

I would love to join you guys but it may be too long of a drive from Milwaukee.

Thanks to Utopian for letting me know about this. As a newbie I'd love to make it to learn from some of you guys. I live in eastern Iowa so that is easiest for me (Iowa City sounds great). I have a 2 year old and 6 week old however so it's difficult for me to commit to anything so have it where it makes the most sense and I'll try to make it if I can.

So far, I have not found a decent cheap conference-type room. Besides, I'd prefer this to be done in a less sterile environment anyway and I suppose my house is quite a bit less sterile! Tentatively, I'm planning on this being at my house unless someone comes up with a better suggestion.

It seems like most of the interest in the Iowa meetup so far comes from outside of Iowa. I certainly don't want to dissuade anyone from coming but it would be kind of weird if most of the people who show up end up being from out of state! Regardless, as long as a few Iowans benefit from this, then it will be worth it.

Tonight I started my first preparation for the meetup. I've got 25 pound of pork shoulder in my Big Green Egg and this is my very first try at pulled pork! It was raining when I set up the egg but I got the meat in at 10:30 tonight. I'm holding a steady 225 temperature and the internal temperature is now at 120. Some time tomorrow I'll find out what the big deal about pulled pork is!

After 17 1/2 hours, my butts are out!

I think this is something I'll be doing again and would gladly do it for the meet-up!

Regarding the date, I wanted Oct 30 but that is a home football game day. If anyone is planning on coming from a distance and would like to spend the night before traveling home, you have the option of my couch or floor or a motel. On a game day, a motel is impossible. Is this a problem for anyone?

Here's the list so far including all the maybes:

    Utopian
    NoseWarmer
    BKratchmer
    Mike Blue
Altshaver (if he can get a ride, finish his thesis, and get a job!)
    Joke1176 (if friend is interested)
    Nun2sharp (if Sham comes)
Hi_Bud_Gl (if Kelly pressures him enough)
    Bruce (if transmission cooperates)
    Lynn (if hip cooperates)
    LouG
Speckey (if Milwaukee moves closer to Iowa City)
Hmbbone (if kids cooperate—you are welcome to bring them)
Cam (a local guy who is interested)

Nov 6 seems to be the better option.

There is a Hawkeye football game on the 30th, so that is not a good choice. Also, Randy has said he will likely drive down from MN as well and he has suggested that we make it a two day event!

So, for anyone who wants to stick around for a second day, you're welcome to stay! We'll make Saturday the 6th the primary day but you can come on either day.

November 6 over two days, sounds good to me, gives me time to visit everybody in Iowa...
