Each time I've used the 30k the results have been incredible. Worth the money?? 20k isn't either.
Not saying it isn't great. it is. Just isn't $400 different above a Naniwa 12k. Hard to justify the price.http://ashevillewetshavers.weebly.com/ April 26-27th come to one of the greatest meet ups of wet shavers!

Thanked: 237$400?? The gokumyo 20k is just over $220 USD shipped. The shapton 30k I have never used, only read reviews. It quite possibly could give great edges, but from what I've read, I chose the 20k. The shapton 30k is $360. The 20k gives an incredible edge in a very short amount of strokes, and it works on a wide variety of steels without prejudice. You are right they are both expensive, but that is all relative. A good jnat that can do what these synthetic stones can would be a lot more expensive.

15-20 strokes on naniwa 12k works great. It's lots cheaper.
400 is close enough to 360.
G20 has come down some it seems.
I have not tried 10k suehiro. Maybe there's a 15, too? Dunno.http://ashevillewetshavers.weebly.com/ April 26-27th come to one of the greatest meet ups of wet shavers!

Thanked: 237Yea suhiero has a 10 and 15k, but they are expensive as well, just not as much as the 20k. Some people love the shave off a 12k, some people find it to be harsh. I recently received my 20k, so I'm still experimenting with several razors. I've found that I like it a lot more than a 12k, so far.

Had a great time and still as usual everytime I listen to Richard and Joe talk razors and sharpening I learn so much! It was good meeting everyone and seeing all the razors and your Kamisori collection Dave!
The USB microscope Jerry had was unreal at analyzing the edge of your razor! Jerry did a great job selling those for someone!!!! I have to have one now!
Great time and look forward to the series of meets when we look to restoration and building back razors!German blade snob!

Mike,
"Dave's not here." (Cheech and Chong). Those are my traditional kamisori. I couldn't get the edges right on the JNAT, but the Belgium coticule did the trick. I tried every other honing system and couldn't do the job. I tried all three this morning and they all shave well. I even went back over an NOS western style Japanese straight last night with the coticule and finally go a great edge with that.
