Condolences to his family and friends, his depth of knowledge was amazing and he was always happy to share this with this community. I have not caught up with the site recently so was shocked to read this today. I wanted someday to buy one of his strops and have at least a razor honed by him. He will leave a big void on this site which no doubt pales in comparison to the loss his family are feeling. We have lost a friend and mentor. As a fellow biker I tip my motorcycle helmet to you (As is custom in the UK) as you ride on in your next life... RIP Neil.
Straight razor shaving is like motorcycling both require full attention and continuos learning and honing of skills...

This is sad news. I didn't know Neil personally, and even though I'm not very active on the forum anymore, I already miss him. Helpful, informative, entertaining, opinionated, argumentative, often all at the same time, he had a unique flair I'll never forget. RIP

I was thinking about Neil today. This morning I used one of the razors he restored for me (Jos.Allen 7/8 square point) and it always makes me smile. I sent it to him and told him it that I know it's not the best razor but it's my favourite one, I've used it frequently for years and really want it to look good. So I asked him to replace the scales with bone, make sure new pins are tight, clean the blade and put a satin finish on the razor. So it comes back in the same scales, although nice and shiny, with loose pins and only the blade and not the tang has a satin finish. :)
It was always an adventure dealing with him. And it's still my best shaver.Last edited by Frankenstein; 10-03-2015 at 12:50 PM.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

I really miss Neil.
Hoglahoo is very correct. Neil's posts never failed to yield info and humor.
Our PMs were a different story. We used each other as outlets for our problems which were not shave related.
Neil may not have been in a class by himself, but it sure did not take long to call attendance. If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I've thought about him from time to time & there has been a significant impact on the site ever since he's been gone. Every time I search for something, I see he was most likely a part of it. I find myself still leaving him likes & thanks on things I haven't yet. Sure, we've all moved on like life normally goes but I've noticed a difference on the forum................an absence of a wealth of certain knowledge, intelligence, wisdom, talent, wit & much more. It hasn't been the same without him. At least you aren't suffering my friend. ~RIP Neil~

Sadly I would second you , your right in what you've said- I couldn't of put it better, he had a knack of coming in on threads when an expert or some straight talking was needed. Some boots are just unfillable.

I always think of Neil. It is interesting to see how many here he befriended and shared with in PM's and off-forum. Indeed, we were not his only spot to frequent!
He would type a long page to me and I always was grateful for the revelations, adventures he would share.
What an enlightened man he truly was."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
