I have a Goldfisch and an unlabelled stone that Henk Bos identified as a Rouge de Salm when he and his wife visited us. IMHO both are entirely different stones. The Rouge de Salm being a softer stone and the Goldfisch being much and much harder.

Lorraine Rouge / Rouge Du Salm / BBW / Goldfisch Wetzstein
I find the layering of the Goldfisch Stone you posted and the one i posted quite comparable, the lines are darker violet to blue....
As mentioned in the F&Co thread listed above the origin of the Goldfisch Stones was Belgium, Burton Rox...
Probably we have to accept/agree that within a layer especially in the Belgium Area the working properties could be different. All the GBB layers have different properties, why shouldnt this be the case with the "red stones" ?Last edited by doorsch; 05-25-2015 at 08:36 PM.

I also have one, haven't used it much, yet.
But it seemed like a good hone the few times I've tried mine, seemed to work well on slurry all the way to plain water.
I also love honing on the BBW, more so than on the coticule, especially on my natural combo BBW side; whereas a BBW purely on water isn't really doing much, the Lorraine seemed to keep going on water.
Now, how do you guys use your Lorraine stone?
Any input on how fast/slow it is with slurry (thick, diluted)
and how fast/slow it is on water and its finishing properties?
Thanks!

The stones work quite good/fast with a thick slurry....finishing on plain water makes a quite shiny bevel even when the scratch pattern isnt too fine from the look, a very well HHT is possible afterwards...

I've 'hastily' tried out a troublesome razor with a couple layers of tape on my Lorraine to test things out.
My HHT was pretty good going from medium slurry diluting to plain water, seemed to smoothly pop the hairs; next time when I have more time, I will play with it some more and see how it performs, but it seemed very promising.
Same goes for the BBW honing, I get such smooth edges from diluting these hones, I'm rather fond of these stones.

I use the Goldfisch and the Rouge de Salm as finishers without raising a slurry as I only raise a slurry with a rubbing stone of the same material. To me the Rouge de Salm and the Goldfisch are entirely different beasts. The Rouge de Salm being a soft, self slurrying stone and the Goldfisch being pretty hard stone. I haven't used the Goldfisch for quite a while but do use the Rouge de Salm frequently on hard-steel razors.

That's funny. My rouge du salm are harder than my cotis. The 10" is particularly hard and fine. Whereas my swirly Lorraine is softer, coarser and also absorbs water.(RDS is totally hydrophobic).
Hopefully I can get my Goldfische paid for soon, I might have to get the Lune separate(was planning a dual purchase). I really want a Goldfisch and a La Lorraine for comparison.
The smell and water absorption are what make me think they are different beasts. I also have some pics at 400x showing different grain structure.(Trying to get them uploaded).
Edit: I will try to do some more definitive hardness testing this evening to be sure of my results.Last edited by DireStraights; 06-06-2015 at 11:17 PM.

I can only add again, that my opinion is that the stones appear different within the layer so they might own certain differences in the abilities and their appearance they show...
I can assure that the Goldfisch Wetzstones are from Belgium Origin, i will add the story and reveal more information when the company profile from F&Co. is available for public and checked back from my counterpart of the family....
@gabe: will hit you up tomorrow, sorry beeing busy at the moment...███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███
